I utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, EMDR, and other therapeutic techniques to assist my clients in working through their individual concerns.
Life can be difficult to navigate. Working a demanding job, managing a household, engaging in a relationship, caring for children, maintaining a social life, addressing health concerns, and so many other daily pressures can overwhelm anyone. My goal is to help you, your relationships, and your family to grow and thrive. By building upon your individual strengths, we can work together to find solutions that work for you to overcome the challenges you are facing.

I am certified in EMDR: a trauma treatment modality.
It's the perfect time to create the life and relationships you want! Therapy doesn't have to be an anxiety producing activity. Long-lasting change takes patience and time to accomplish. However, I understand that hard work is necessary to achieve the timely results clients appreciate, so I am direct in my approach. I love helping people enjoy their lives more fully and accomplish their goals by helping them decrease their depression and anxiety symptoms and increase their self-esteem. I also enjoy helping couples work through the problems that are keeping them from having thriving relationships.

I have a specialty in EMDR and have multiple stories of positive results in working with people that have a traumatized past and emotional dysregulation in their lives.
Some people are fearful, uncertain, confused, confidence waning, having anger issues from somewhere at another time in one's past. Others get overwhelmed by life and one's role they play. There are no simple answers to these issues and at times it is difficult for an individual to overcome these challenges, but not impossible.

Most often I draw from my trainings in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and trauma skills training (including use of EMDR).
I believe that our mental health should be a priority. The journey of one's life can be thrown off course by unexpected changes, trauma, grief, and emotional struggles. The counseling process, along with a strong therapeutic relationship, can be a supportive way to find understanding, healing, wholeness and direction. I am committed to providing a welcoming environment where individuals and families can feel unconditional acceptance and a sense of hope. I will work with you to create therapeutic goals that are meaningful to you, in an effort to help you feel like each session has a purpose.

*I value providing space and time for current clients. Because of this value, I am not able to take on new clients at this time.* Hello! I am Stephanie and my passion is working with women and girls who have experienced trauma and are ready to move forward from the effects of it. Getting through the day can be a struggle after trauma occurs. It can feel like your personality completely changes. Like you are unseen, unheard, and a burden. You have tried navigating these feelings on your own, but need more support. Maybe this is occurring to your teenager and you want to ensure they are getting the right help at the right time.

Life can be so hard sometimes. Things happen that are unexpected, and we are left searching for answers or trying to cope. Many people feel they have to go through this alone or don't know how to reach out for help. My goal as a therapist is to help give you and/or your child that support you need in a caring and non-judgmental way. Going to therapy can be very scary at first and I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and cared-for from the very beginning.

Most of the time we can manage the ups and downs of life without extra support. Then something shifts, and it can feel like it all collapses like a house of cards. Quickly, it can feel like you don't even recognize yourself anymore. None of the skills you were using to successfully manage your life work like they used to. You're overwhelmed and at a loss for how to get unstuck. At times even the seemingly tiniest of changes can shake us to our foundations, and leave us feeling adrift; but change is often the perfect opportunity to grow.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
