Customizing therapy methods and techniques to the needs of each individual I use a combination of (CBT) Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfullness, EMDR, and stress/anger mangement strategies to help motivate change.
Specializing in adolescent issues, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and life transitions, I provide outpatient counseling for teens, adults, couples, and families, in a comfortable private setting. My approach is eclectic, with a combination of client centered and cognitive-behavioral philosophy. I strongly believe that the most important predictor of potential success in therapy is the initial connection and development of a client-therapist relationship.

I use a blend of Mindfulness, psycho-dynamic, DBT, neurobiological, attachment, EMDR, compassion therapies to identify and strengthen inner resources and resilience.
Courage. That is what I hear when I am contacted for consultation. We collaborate in a supportive environment to face challenges like being single (again), grief, strengthening a marriage, #MeToo, anxiety, codependency, impostor syndrome or burnout. Together, we understand and transform barriers that block you from what you want in life. I have extensive training in the treatment of trauma/neglect. I have experience working with people from a variety of ethnicities, religious/spiritual backgrounds and sexual orientations. We will mindfully, focus on the present and briefly visit the past when it is influencing the present.

You’re exhausted from fighting back these feelings… The crippling anxiety, the endless second guessing yourself, the pit in your stomach of never feeling good enough. As much as you crave genuine connection, there’s a significant relationship in your life that leaves you feeling overwhelmed, confused and like you’re walking on egg shells to keep the peace and earn their love. This tension carries over into your personal life and your sense of identity. You’ve hidden your true wants and needs for so long that you can’t tell up from down any more. All you know is that something must change.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
