My special interests are trauma and grief/loss and I have completed trainings in EMDR, IFS, CBT for Anxiety, and Mindfulness.
“What’s wrong with knowing what you know now and not knowing what you don’t know until later?”, Winnie the Pooh. As a therapist, I share Pooh’s inquisitive spirit and love for the forest. I am curious about my clients, about getting to know them. Human relationships are by nature dynamic and can be complex, and these are the very things that draw me to therapy. Being person centered is important to me, which means meeting you where you are “at” and creating a safe space by showing unconditional positive regard. I am authentic in my relationships and can be direct. I am growth and insight oriented and like to learn with my clients.

I am a licensed therapist specializing in clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups. I view my role as assisting my clients to more fully realize and become their authentic selves. Often, life events occur that prevent us from feeling strong, brave, satisfied, or even present in the world. We may become disconnected from others as well as ourselves. My passion is supporting clients as they grow, heal, play, discover, and connect within their therapy sessions and in their lives. I provide a safe, secure space where clients can explore their innermost thoughts, feelings, wishes, and fears.

Let me acknowledge that it can be so challenging to find a therapist that takes your insurance, has availability, aligns with your schedule, and is someone you click with. Let me tell you all the main things you need to know to determine if we might be a good fit: I offer virtual individual sessions to adults residing in Vermont and New Jersey. I mostly work in the evenings, with limited availability during the day. I don't have much flexibility in my schedule, so I typically see clients on consistent days and times - weekly or bi-weekly. Please email to connect.

Are you feeling hopeless about the possibility of having joy again? In the middle of a storm, when it is windy, dark and hard to see, it can be challenging to remember that the sun will shine again and brighter days are ahead. Similarly, it can be difficult to recognize that there is hope and beauty on the other side of emotional pain, trauma and the devastation of grief and loss. My goal is to help guide you to a place where you will believe that there is hope ahead. I have experience working with clients who are seeking therapy for a variety of reasons including relational trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety and relationship issues.

I also used EMDR to help with integration of healing.
Therapy should be more than just talk. I offer more than just a safe space to talk about your feelings. I offer ways to truly become connected to your feelings and integrate what you learn about your feelings in therapy into your daily life. If you are overwhelmed with work, parenting, feel betrayed or hurt in the relationships, feel disconnected from others, maybe you sense a hopelessness around world events and/or maybe just want to learn more about who you are: we will work together to understand who you are, what is really good for you and what you want out of life. When you are with me, you belong, you matter, you are safe.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
