Counseling is the practice of self-reflection and exploration in which people examine their sense of self and how they interact with the world. Using a wellness approach, I assist clients in practicing reflection in all areas of life. Each client requires unique treatment, so I strive to shape my counseling style to compliment a client’s change process. Depending on the type of counseling provided, I use evidence-based research theories, models, and techniques to assist in personal reflection and growth for individuals, families, and children.
Working from an attachment perspective, I ultimately view our world through the relationships we experience. This influences both my philosophy and practice of counseling, which is that people need support from themselves and their family, friends, and community in order to thrive.
My primary goal for counseling is to provide clients with a safe and accepting relationship in which they are able to explore their sense of self, and when working with families, to explore their selves in relation to their partners or family members. This is reflected throughout our entire practice at Illuminate Counseling.
