About

I understand that deciding to see a Psychologist is stressful and a big first step toward feeling better. I believe the benefit you receive from therapy is directly related to your feeling of comfort and connection with your therapist. I have a warm sense of humor and use compassion and sensitivity to quickly understand your situation. I incorporate a Cognitive-Behavioral approach in therapy and focus on the therapeutic relationship, warmth and genuine understanding. As a wife, professional, and mom to two teens, two dogs and two guinea pigs, I know life can be hectic! My goal is to help you wade through the chaos to find the calm.
I have over 25 years experience working with children and adults over the lifespan. I received my BS in Psychology from TCU in 1992 and my MS in Clinical Psychology from ESU in 1994. I worked several years counseling children and adolescents and their families before returning to school in to earn my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from UNT in 2001.
My areas of interest include adolescents and young adults who are struggling with the transition to adulthood; women’s issues, including managing role conflicts of parent and career, infertility, adoption, grief and loss; post divorce coping; chronic medical illness and depression and anxiety management. The best way to reach me is through email.

Elizabeth Zak's Groups

High School Girls Group

I co-lead a High School girls group which is offered a few times a year. The group is 8 sessions and typically held on Saturdays. The group focuses on education on topics unique to the challenges of today's teen girls and dedicated time to allow for small group processing. Topics include such things as: The impact of social media on mood; body image and self esteem; unhealthy coping such as drugs, alcohol, smoking and vaping; healthy coping strategies; interpersonal relationships, including friends, parents, dating and sex. This is a closed group and requires a commitment for attendance at all 8 sessions.
