My ideal client would be a motivated adult individual willing to "put in the work" to obtain their therapeutic goals. This individual might struggle with a myriad of mental health issues (depression, anxiety, addiction, self-harm, suicidal ideation, etc.) and have a wide array of needs and goals (self-esteem building, psychoeducation, organizational skills, coping mechanisms, etc.). This client is prepared to be honest with themselves in therapy to identify thought patterns and/or behaviors that they may be participating in that are hindering them from having a healthy mental state.
I could help this client by using a solution-focused and strengths-based approach. I would help this client build self-esteem by guiding them toward recognizing their own strengths and setting realistic, obtainable goals within their lives that they can work toward completing between sessions.
I understand how daunting and vulnerable it can feel to talk to someone about the struggles that you've kept to yourself for so long. Asking for help is not easy, but it is a sign of significant strength, and it's the first step toward the self-honesty that's required to create the changes in your life that you want to see.
