Do you ever struggle with feeling disconnected, like you don't fit in, or like you're watching the world happen around you from the outside in? Do you feel like you need someone to really understand you? To feel heard and unconditionally accepted in a space of your own? Above all, the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship we will cultivate together in session, which is in and of itself an invaluable tool. I value the concepts of authenticity, comfort and client autonomy in the therapy space. We will always go at your own pace. Where you go in that space, I will be there beside you.

Change is hard, especially when we feel stuck in old patterns, challenging relationships or unsatisfying careers . It can feel like a really lonely place to be. But you don't have to experience this alone. Therapy can help you make the changes you've been struggling to make on your own. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from the past and present, to understand the patterns that may be making you feel stuck on a loop. We will work to gain awareness and insight into barriers that may be standing in your way and preventing you from achieving your goals, while also identifying your strengths and how to use them.

I believe my position, as a therapist, is to partner with my clients in a safe environment that will allow resources to be uncovered and new choices to be discovered. These tools will equip them to find desired changes and/or fight their problems. Life experiences can limit what is available and by processing these experiences people can find understanding, healing and/or the ability to move on and thrive. I work with individuals, couples and families, and have a specialization in working with preteens/teens as well as persons with terminal illnesses. I offer a free phone consultation.

I love to work with people who are motivated to change. You might not know exactly what needs to change, but perhaps you have a vague feeling something better is out there. In my experience, new motivation or working harder is rarely what is needed. What we usually do need is to find a way to have relationships that are as soft, safe and connected as possible.

Life is challenging enough without being hampered by painful or unpleasant thoughts, feelings or memories. I have been in private practice since 1990, helping people overcome the emotional obstacles that prevent them from living full and satisfying lives. These obstacles include: low self-esteem, difficulty relating to others, relationship problems, unresolved grief, immobilizing anxiety, unresolved issues from childhood, maladaptive ways of coping with stress etc.. I see adults only and do not do couple's therapy. When contacting me, please briefly state what you need help with, and, your insurance, if planning to use it.

Seeking out therapy is a very heroic action in and of itself, perhaps your first proactive step into redefining your sense of self, creating a new life story, and taking a leap into the direction of self-care. If you are reading this, you may be in a state of uncertainty, or perhaps connected more deeply than you would like to be to the effects of depression, anxiety, or your daily life situations. Maybe, you are wrestling in a relationship with someone you love; perhaps, finding the words to communicate who you are and how you feel may seem unattainable and challenging at best.

When working with patients, I take a holistic approach and assess from a bio/psycho/social/spiritual point-of-view. I believe assessing the whole patient is the best way to understand underlying problems/symptoms related to psychopathology. Most importantly, empathy, trust, a therapeutic alliance and rapport is of utmost concern; I want your therapy hour to be useful, beneficial, and enjoyable. My areas of specialty include treatment of sleep disruptions/insomnia, depression and anxiety.

My ideal clients are those who have a strong desire to become freer of their problems, so they can become the best versions of themselves. I am certified in EMDR and have found it an incredible tool for overcoming trauma, both recent and long-standing. I especially enjoy working with clients who are overcoming the psychological damage incurred from being involved with narcissists, and artists working to overcome blocks to their creativity.

I help my clients find meaning behind their preferred narrative. Whether youre experiencing a life transition, find it challenging in setting boundaries, attachment wounds, or navigating your cultural/racial identity you may be thinking, "Do I even belong here? Am I not good enough?”. These experiences may bring up anxiety, depressive thoughts, or even traumatic stress. Digging deep into the origins of these experiences may uncover wounds from intergenerational trauma, childhood trauma, intersectional identities or environmental triggers. I hope to provide you a safe and trusting space to be able to feel heard, seen, and validated.

My approach blends years of experience with natural compassion, humor and insight. I'm not a passive therapist. I'm interactive in sessions, using a holistic, relational approach with techniques from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic and narrative. I specialize in helping re-wire patterned thinking in your brain through talk therapy. Without a bunch of clinical jargon, we have relatable conversations in session where I will both nurture you and challenge you when needed. We stay in the present to shift behaviors and ways of thinking, while also getting to the root of the issues and feelings by understanding and processing them at the core.

Hello and welcome. So let's start by dispelling the common misconception that therapy is for the weak and broken. This could not be more untrue. Therapy is for the bold and intrepid. Therapy is for those who are unwilling to accept how things are and choose instead to brave the roads less traveled in search of something better. So whether your dissatisfaction lies in patterns that you can't seem to break free of, turbulent relationships with partners, family or friends, or in the daunting challenges posed by depression, anxiety, grief et al., your insistence for change not only should never be shamed, it should be deeply admired.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
