Life transitions are challenging whether it is navigating high school, adjusting to a child growing up, or realizing you are not where you expected at this point in life. My experience has been with people who have turned to alcohol, drugs, food, sex, or self-injury to cope with various life events. Others have shut down in the form of depression or paralyzing anxiety. Essentially the ways of handling life’s stressors are no longer effective, and in these moments we need help. I enjoy working with people who have a desire to learn how to better navigate their transition.
Smith College trained me in psychodynamic theory, which allows me a framework to understand how best to serve clients. Through this lens, I utilize cognitive behavioral techniques to address a client’s specific issues. I also believe the connection between therapist and client is essential for a successful working relationship.
Working at Families First, Emory Counseling Center, and Talbott Recovery Campus has provided me with clinical opportunities to work with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Client issues have included depression, anxiety, school difficulties, eating disorders, grief, chemical addiction, and sexual compulsivity.
