He also experienced the mental and physical strain the career takes on those committed to the profession. As a counselor, he has transformed his unique experience to help others through therapy. Trent believes that therapy is about meeting the client where they are and working with individuals collaboratively in a non-judgmental space. It is about becoming self-aware and working hard to create the best version of yourself.

As a therapist who works with women stung and damaged by all sorts of life events, I believe that resilience is one of the single most important qualities that enables us to bounce back from the edge. Resilience allows us to find our strength in adverse circumstances. It requires a willingness to fall apart for a time and get in touch with our pain. There is much healing that can be accomplished by getting to know yourself at your rawest and darkest times.

I obtained my Masters of Science in Family Studies from Texas Woman's University, in addition to a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Derek has worked in the field of counseling for over 15 years helping clients work through concerns including depression, anxiety, and even self image. He has worked with military personnel, law enforcement, and the foster care system. Derek has significant experience in working with individuals and families struggling with addiction and utilizes a safe and warm environment to engage his clients in developing healthy strategies to work through their recovery and engage families in adapting to changes in the family dynamic.
