My approach to helping: I see life as a journey. Sometimes we get in a rut and have difficulty getting out, or sometimes we think we are on the right road and things turn out differently than expected, leaving us devastated and not knowing how or what to change. At times, we are unaware of our repeated patterns or how early life experiences have affected us. At the time, we usually do the best we can with what skills we have. Sometimes, we have to change our unhelpful coping skills and develop strategies and skills that will help us be happier and more functional people. Dr Chuck Flagler is a full-time senior clinician and licensed psychologist employed by Focus Centers of Asheville. He has over 30 years experience as a provider of mental health services with a variety of organizations that include inpatient, outpatient and school-based populations. Dr Flagler has two Masters Degrees in Psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an A.P.A. Accredited University. Dr Flagler has worked as a psychotherapist, chemical dependency therapist, neurofeedback clinician Behavior Analyst and Clinical Director for a variety of mental health organizations.

Sometimes we may feel lost and unable to see ourselves during a change or transition. I enjoy working with those who wish for a deeper relationship with themselves. I enjoy helping clients connect dots and uncover strengths they may be unable to see or unaware they have. I have a passion for helping women navigate motherhood and relationships at any stage. Clear, Resolve, Transform. I help clients discover and resolve subconscious causes for emotionaI and behavioral difficulties. The Subconscious controls emotions, desires, memory, habits, thoughts, dreams, and automatic responses. One may consciously understand the value of eliminating problematic emotions, thoughts or behaviors but unless the Subconscious Mind is reached, enduring change is unlikely. I address the underlying subconscious blocks to living a clear and free life. I have effectively treated sexual abuse, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, phobias, addictions and more. My life experiences and personal testimony is evidence of God's ability to restore and redeem. My journey in becoming a counselor has given me an understanding for the need to see others through God's perspective, a holistic view in providing care and compassion, while ministering to individuals using various resources and methods. No one person or situation is alike. The uniqueness to your story requires personal insight while allowing the Holy Spirit to heal the inner person. I use biblically based teaching intertwined with psychological tools, to minister to the entire person: mind, body, spirit, soul.

The most important need for individuals is to be truly heard. In my practice I place that need before everything else. My goal is to create an atmosphere of trust that allows the client the freedom to share their most personal experiences without fear of judgement. For over 30 years I have worked successfully with clients in crisis, those who have endured abuse and/or trauma, parents with issues related to their children, divorce and separation, grief and loss, as well as issues related to everyday living.

I am ready for the patient who is ready for the work. I came to this field after being inspired by some of the great forerunners of the field. Introspective work appeals to my sense of analytical inquiry. I am coming to each session with a readiness to tackle and analyze the problem that is getting between where you are and where you want to be. I love working with substance use/abuse behaviors and have spent a portion of my career investing in patients who are at all levels of recovery. I also enjoy working with patients who just want to make small changes.

Clients I have worked with include: survivors of sexual violence; partners seeking to rebuild or recover sexual and emotional intimacy; partners in the aftermath of sexual infidelity; sex workers; people with erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation; asexuality; partners looking to explore ethical non-monogamy or polyamory. I work with clients building their relationship to their bodies, their sexual identities, and desires. My clients also include people processing complex grief, communication barriers in relationships, and exploring values and shifting behaviors to promote authenticity, mindfulness, and integrity.
