My "home base" is in contemporary feminist psychodynamic therapy, but I utilize techniques from CBT, DBT, internal family systems, mindfulness, and sensorimotor psychotherapy to tailor my approach to a client's presenting needs. I'm a firm believer that a person will not feel safe exploring difficult areas in therapy if they don't feel comfortable with the human sitting across from them. There is not a singular source to our suffering. Turmoil can originate in, and travel through, our bodies, minds, communities, families, and sociopolitical systems. Often, we respond to inner turmoil in two extreme ways. We may excessively worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; we may avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous or distressing, numb ourselves, or say 'it is hopeless,' and check out. Ultimately, we benefit from engaging thoughtfully with our grief and pain, as well as with our values and desires.
