Stories have always fascinated me. I work with people who are experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, sadness and anger. They are in unfulfilling relationships or Have difficulty making relationships. The situations they find themselves in can be of short or long duration. Whether from external sources or more internally driven, helping them express their feelings and connecting them to their source allows individuals to bring more objectivity to their perspective. From this vantage point comes the ability to create new approaches to viewing themselves and situations. When helpful I give very concrete practical advice. From this comes change.

I am certified in Imago Relationship Therapy and I have completed all levels of training from the Gottman Institute. In addition I trained with The Family Institute. I offer a one hour free lecture entitled the The Art and Science of Relationships. I am available to churches, synagogues, community centers, attorneys and physicians to offer this free lecture to their parishioners, attendees, clients or patients. In addition I am available to give a couple's workshop on The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work and would consider any requests on topics that are deemed of interest.

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that each individual has the capacity to affect change in his/her life. I also believe in my responsibility to actively engage with my client and facilitate their movement through their issues and feelings. Different theoretical interventions may be more facilitative depending on one's particular needs, one's background, one's view of the world, and one's capacity for insight. As a therapist, I truly consider the individual as a whole and attempt to utilize the most effective tool to facilitate progress towards independent wellness given the particular needs and challenges of my client.

My certification from Jane Addams School of Social Work is in Evidence-Based Practice. I focus on solution-oriented therapy in my work with adults, children, adolescents, individuals, couples and families. This includes CBT strategies, strengths-based and psycho-dynamic treatment in a joint effort with clients to meet their multi-dimensional needs. Our work together will include exploring your concerns from many perspectives to facilitate problem solving, improved functioning, and reduce negative symptoms.

My psychotherapy with adult individuals and couples is active and collaborative. We begin with discussing what precipitated your visit and attempt to understand why you are where you are from a perspective that is developmental and non-pathologizing. As an individual and couples therapist, I am skilled at weighing the relative contributions of what is within an individual and what is between individuals and within troubled relationships.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds. While I tend conceptualize from a psychodynamic perspective, my treatment tends towards a more integrative model. I often use treatment techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused treatment. I believe that one theory alone is not necessarily going to apply to every individual from a multitude of cultures and backgrounds.
