Hello, I’m Jim and I am excited to know about your life experiences and your goals for better health! I believe that everyone has a unique life story that presents both great challenges and great opportunities. I have been a practicing counselor for the past twenty years in the Pike’s Peak region. I have worked with people of all ages from young children to seniors. I provide individual, couples and family therapy.

With over twenty five years experience in El Paso and Teller counties working with individuals, families and groups, I believe that difficulties often bring us to a place of change. Change comes with an assortment of feelings: relief, fear, sometimes both. My personal background is rich in diversity and experience. With unconditional acceptance and compassion for my clients, I am known for my work with a variety of people. We identify the problem and then focus on solutions together. I am a licensed family therapist with level III certification in addictions counseling and experience working with individuals and groups as well.

I offer a safe and peaceful space for people experiencing challenges and life transitions to take new and intentional steps. I work with those seeking positive change who are ready to prioritize their well-being. Making changes and finding a path can be overwhelming, and I enjoy helping people identify and reach their authentic goals.

I will meet you where you are and offer a safe space for sorting out your personal challenges stemming from issues like trauma, conflict, grief, and/or worrisome behaviors or diagnoses. Grounded in trauma-informed practices, I use an eclectic blend of modalities including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy to create a collaborative approach based on your strengths. I specialize in applying evidence-based skills to help foster the development of healthy coping techniques and positive life management skills.

My goal as a Licensed Professional Counselor is to offer professional care on a personal level to clients in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. My focus is on working with individuals, families and couples from all walks of life that are open to learning and growing. I provide psychiatric medication management in Colorado and New Mexico and telehealth in other states. I have doctoral degrees in psychology, medicine, and utilize the procedures to help you achieve the best quality of life. I want you to understand what the issues are and how to best deal with them. I am skilled at treating clients who are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems as a result of trauma, stress and interpersonal conflict. Clients struggling with addictions, poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety, self-defeating behaviors, and impulse control problems will find my services helpful. I appreciate clients who may not yet have identified their goals as I like the challenge of developing goals with my clients and seeing them grow and progress over the course of therapy.

For the past 20 years I've been an educator and school counselor working with adolescents from ages 6-18. This experience ignited a passion to merge my therapeutic skills with my educational background in order to make a positive impact on young lives in the community. My diverse expertise includes dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, suicide loss, divorce, pet loss, school issues, ADHD, parenting and caregiving, life transitions, self-discovery, and chronic illness to wellness. I have extensive work with students on 504 plans, at-risk assessments, behavior plans, and issues with bullying and self-harm.

Have I ever been in therapy? Yes, and it was life-changing. My personal therapy inspired me to leave my previous profession as an architect and become a therapist to provide healing to others. My goal is to create a place of trust where you can share your life's stories, remove the blocks keeping you from a better life, help you find balance, and eliminate the swings from highs to lows. I believe we can work together to discover the source of your conflict, find your strength and understanding to resolve problems, and allow you to move toward new positive actions.

My job as a therapist is to help in creating that image, guide you in moving forward, and assist you in resolving past and current issues that get in the way.

I specialize in children, teenagers, and young adults with anxiety and depression, especially with estrangement issues such as conflict with parents, divorced and/or deployed parents, as well as career planning. I have experience treating those with mild symptoms who need a sounding board to those with severe suicidal ideation and self-harm who need a comprehensive treatment plan integrated with multiple providers. I am a Christian and can offer help from a biblical perspective if desired.

Sometimes, we find ourselves buried under challenging life circumstances. When this happens, we are left with three options: remain stuck and undecided, fight through, wounded and bitter, or emerge stronger, wiser and more resilient.
