In my private practice, I counsel individuals, adolescents, adults and couples, focused on anxiety, depression and relationship issues. One of my areas of focus is baby boomers contemplating retirement, transitioning into retirement and/or second careers. This population is often managing the needs of an elderly parent(s) and simultaneously, their own adult children. These challenges converge with our own issues of aging, such as mid-life crisis, changes in our health and viability and our mortality. I'm currently counseling several couples.
As we encounter their own mortality, we consider advance care planning and reflect on end-of-life issues. This focus on end-of-life and ultimately grief/ bereavement counseling, lends itself to making our immediate lives more meaningful.
My approach is to establish a trusting therapeutic relationship. After that, we will work collaboratively to develop a plan to meet the client's changing goals.
