Hi, my name is Mia Clemons. I graduated from the University of North Alabama with my Master's in Social Work, and currently in pursuit of my LICSW. I obtained my bachelor's degree from Faulkner University in Criminal Justice. I also graduated from a two-year program at ECLI, involving leadership and seminary development. I am the founder of Speak Up Ministries and a self-published author.

My counseling practice believes in the journey. This is why I named it "Wayfare Counseling". Wayfare is an Old English word that means "to go on a journey". Have you ever wondered where that anger comes from, or why you can't seem to shake that feeling of guilt or self-deception that keeps getting the best of you? My approach centers around understanding where we get our anxiety and how we can work to create a better sense of calm in our lives. Every person struggles throughout their life to hold onto the positive relationships and the warmth and belonging of their families, but sometimes life throws us so many curves that we swing and swing until we're hot with rage or blue with sadness.

The focus of our practice, is to assist adults, children, and families with obtaining relatable therapy, to reach goals. We assess situations in your life which contribute to current emotions behaviors and thought patterns. With child and adolescent clients our focus is similar, with the addition of close communication with the family. Moreover, with child and adolescents, we will focus on depression, impulsive behavior, limited attention span, oppositional/defiant behaviors, dishonesty, and social issues in school/home. Family and/or friends are welcome in your sessions for support. We do offer 430p-630p, and weekend appointments.

Most of us arrive at times when we can benefit from talking with a knowledgeable person who can listen with the objective of helping us to understand ourselves. My goal as a counselor is to help each person know and accept themselves. When I can provide that kind of counseling relationship, clients are much more likely to find their own strengths and wisdom. By listening with compassion and empathy, rather than judgment, I am more likely to help clients find greater harmony and peace in their relationships.

Life so often gets in the way of us being who we really want to be, especially with the amount of distractions and chaos that we face today. I believe that we all have the ability to overcome those distractions and live life to the fullest. Sometimes those distractions are big things like psychological or medical diagnoses, divorce, or other big life events that steal our energy and focus. Sometimes they are less dramatic but still effect us greatly, like moving, changing jobs, or having anxiety or depression. My focus in counseling is learning who you are, what your goals are, and how I can best help you achieve them.

I have over 25 years of experience assisting people to work through personal challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional challenges for many of us. The ordinary stresses and strains of living have become accentuated by the need to remain inside. I believe in therapy and have personally experienced the benefits of having a therapeutic relationship with a trained professional.
