Hi there! I'm passionate about working with folks who deal with high functioning depression & anxiety, experienced childhood trauma and/or complex trauma, or who struggle with body image, disordered eating, and self esteem concerns. My goal is to help folks stuck in a cycle of over functioning, people pleasing, disconnection and overwhelm learn to break this cycle and get to a place of grounding, clarity and connection. I strive to provide a warm, supportive and judgment-free space that is culture affirming and trauma informed, with an understanding that you are the expert on your life.

Life can be extremely difficult to navigate at times, especially when going through major life transitions. These things can greatly impact our well-being, especially if we do not have the proper tools to work through them. It can seem impossible to deal with these life stressors and escape from the overwhelming feelings that accompany them. I can help guide your mental health journey and together we can learn how to manage the challenges life throws at you. In 2010, I graduated from Colorado State University with a Masters Degree in Social Work.

Hello and welcome! If you're reading this profile it likely means you're looking for assistance either for yourself or for someone else. Finding a therapist that's a good match can be very challenging. It can be hard to know what you're looking for in a therapist and how to go about selecting one. I offer a free consultation to assist with determining goodness of fit without commitment. The research shows that having a strong client-therapist relationship can significantly increase positive therapeutic outcomes.

I primarily work with clients within queer community, especially trans folks, and lifestyles such as kink, polyamory, or sex work. My hope is to provide a safe space (and a sliding scale!) where you don't have to spend your time in therapy educating your therapist on the concepts that are everyday within your own life. I love work around emotional regulation, communication and conflict resolution, with individuals and with multiple people within a relationship, to help develop healthier coping mechanisms, processing techniques, and self-acceptance/self-care methods to improve feelings of empowerment, security, and life satisfaction.

Are you stuck in an uncomfortable situation and feel hopeless about what to do next? Many of my clients find they are tired of giving up parts of themselves in order to survive or fit in. It can be difficult keeping up with the demands of career, family and friends. It is common to feel misunderstood, lonely, isolated or alienated.

You're tired of being mean to yourself and feeling isolated and alone. You seek connection and support, but cannot seem to get that consistently from either your parents, partner, self or all three.

I’ve been a licensed psychotherapist for many years and now retired. Over the span of my career, I’ve worked with children, adults and families to help them achieve a higher quality of life. This is why people seek out therapy. I recognize when people experience symptoms of mental health conditions, such as anxiety, adult ADHD, depression, stress, or struggles that arise in work, friends, close/marital and family relationships can often lead to feeling trapped. If you’re seeking help to overcome these challenges that stand in the way of living the quality of life you want, I can help.

I hope to partner with you! I will offer clinical expertise in perinatal issues, trauma, and attachment. I lean into my own lived perinatal experiences within the client-therapist dynamic. What I’ve found matters most is finding someone to walk alongside you. We are wired for connection, and despite what the movies portray the fertility, pregnancy and/or postpartum experience to look like, it can be a time where you feel cut off from others and yourself in unexpected ways. Previous pregnancy loss and miscarriage can also impact an experience we’ve longed for.

It can be difficult to ask for help. Sometimes you're not sure if your situation necessarily qualifies for therapy. I believe it is okay to need support, to be vulnerable, or just want some time to reflect on what is going on for you. My role is to help my clients find this authentic place which ultimately leads to more comfort and peace. I consider it a privilege to have a client enter the office and be vulnerable enough to reach out for help.

Anxiety, depression, and relationship strain are all signs of change trying to happen. Often fear holds us back from challenging ourselves and our relationships. What we need is security, loving acceptance, and healthy curiosity. You may fear that you are stuck, that your partner will never change to meet your needs, or perhaps you are predestined to being unhappy or alone. I help people create relationships where they are comfortable enough to grow. It's through authentic relationships that we find the strength to dream big. Together we can find deep and meaningful connection and insight, find joy in our tears, trust, and grow.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
