As a child/adolescent therapist and parent-child specialist, I am acutely aware of the impact that our very stressful culture can have on both parents and children. At times the demands overwhelm and confuse causing parents to question whether they are making the "right" decisions for themselves and for their children. I work with parents to help them trust their own choices and develop confidence in a parenting style that reflects their personal values. I use an age-appropriate combination of play and talk therapy to help young children and adolescents work through their social, school and/or family anxieties.
Test/Performance anxiety is one of my specialties. As a former educator (secondary and college levels), and current child/adolescent therapist, I am able to combine educational strategies with psychological insight to help students of all ages/grades as well as adults overcome their test/performance anxiety.
In addition, I offer traditional insight-oriented therapy for adults. And while my approach may vary depending on who my client is, my goals remain constant: to help the child, parent(s) or individual adult reduce anxiety, improve communication and find increased joy in themselves, in their activities, and in the significant others in their lives.

First Time Moms

While being a first time mom is a joyful experience, it can also be, at times, a bit daunting. After all, it is a life altering journey with many new and unexpected challenges along the way. As a parent-child specialist, I'm conducting an ongoing psychotherapy support group for first-time moms. This group offers a safe place for you to ask questions, get useful information, share strategies and express and address anxieties with others who are at the same or similar stage, with my professional guidance.

Parenting The "Too-Empowered" Child

When your child ignores you or, even worse, rudely refuses a reasonable request, do you find yourself thinking "What have I done wrong?" In this child-centered world, kids are encouraged "to be seen and to be heard." That's a good thing. Still, the scenario of the "too-empowered" child has become commonplace and is challenging. And if you are a parent who has difficulty handling these challenging moments, you may be interested in joining my psychotherapy/support group. It focuses on exploring creative strategies which will help you to manage these situations in a firm yet loving way.
