I love working with youth who have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, communication issues, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I enjoy working with kids that are "miscellaneous" or fit outside of the box. My approach is non-traditional, and it works well with kids who have had negative experiences in therapy, or hate the concept of therapy in general. I incorporate play therapy, art, and fidget toys in my sessions.
Humor is like a rubber sword- it can make a point without drawing blood" describes my therapy style. I will be funny and I will be direct, but it won't hurt. I have 10 years experience as a social worker, and I have many stories of success and triumph. I would love for your child to be another success story.
At the beginning of every session, I always say, "I don't know you, and you don't know me. We are strangers, and we need to get to know each other so that we can trust each other. What's the first thing you want me to know about you?" And then our therapy will progress from there :)
