I believe individuals come to therapy with concerns that have become problematic to their lives. However we were raised, along the way, we picked up traits that grew along with us, and manifested themselves in our everyday living; traits, such as abandonment, mistrust, defectiveness, vulnerable to harm/illness, entitlement, unrelenting standards/hypercritical, and dependence. I believe these traits hide in plain sight. Individuals will come to therapy looking to relieve themselves of moments, or situations, only to find these traits, disguised as their concerns. It is up to our work together to find a way to overcome these traits.
My theory of focus is primarily Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), through my primary lens, EFT is a structural approach to couples work and negative communication patterns. My focus is on the safety of individuals in therapy, creating an environment that is safe for them to find expression that their world around them will now be able to understand.
It is so important to me to have therapy feel as comfortable for you has humanly possible. In order for you to feel secure enough to communicate, and share your world with me, your safety must be priority. It is my belief that you can not have trust, without first creating safety.
