I specialize in helping clients cultivate coping skills and gain insight into issues to improve relationships, functioning and quality of life. I obtained my Master's Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and have twenty years experience working in various mental health settings, including Loudoun County Mental Health (CSB), INOVA Health System and outpatient practice. Drawing on experience from individuals with serious mental illness, to those needing guidance, education and support for a wide variety of everyday issues, I tailor my clinical expertise to meet my clients where they are at to support recovery and meet goals.

Amy Hughes is an LPC and the founder of Connections4life Professional Therapy Services, PC. She is also a VA board approved supervisor of student interns and residents in counseling. In addition, she is trained in EMDR, EFT and is a level 2 Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Connections4life offers customized care. We specialize in C-PTSD, PTSD, developmental trauma, anxiety & depression. We believe in the power of connections and that we are all capable of change and growth. In over 30 years of practice, I have discovered that my clients want more than relief from their symptoms. They want to better understand themselves and their struggles, they want practical tools to help them change, and they want more out of the relationships and their lives. Through my practice, continued training and education, and my own personal growth I am committed to offering my clients a wide range of meaningful and effective therapeutic experiences that address each of these desires and more. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I offer hypnotherapy and equine assisted psychotherapy (an innovative experiential therapy).

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist specializing in psychotherapy with adults (18+) experiencing a wide variety of psychological, medical and/or psychosocial issues. My approach is collaborative, straightforward and approachable, based in an acceptance and values-driven way of seeing the world. What we work towards together is defined by you - based in your own belief system and measured by whether you are living your life in ways most consistent with what you value.

My passion as a therapist is helping couples and families establish a safe, secure connection. This often involves healing a past injury. I have extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an empirically validated therapy based in attachment theory. I also work with individuals to help recover from depression and establish ways to manage anxiety. Parenting, including co-parenting for divorced couples is another passion of mine.

I love what I do! I get to help you turn your insights into action for addictions, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. We may use individual, family, or group therapy, relapse prevention, education, medication, or MAT/MOUD. Our Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program is for people struggling with both a mental health and drug/alcohol issue. We know that recovery does not always mean abstinence. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing disordered eating and people seeking to make peace with food and their body. My work also includes people in relationships and individuals experiencing sexual problems, separation and divorce, infidelity, and co-parenting. I use a nonjudgemental, collaborative, person-centered approach to address the individual's needs. I work with individuals to help them recognize their own strengths and incorporate positive coping strategies as they move forward. I believe that creating trust and a little bit of humor go a long way in working through the struggles we face in life.

Insight Recovery Centers is a licensed adult Intensive Outpatient Program. We are right for people who may be stepping down from a residential or detox program or need more than once a week therapy. Your program may include a combination of group, individual counseling, case management, and drug/alcohol testing. There is a step down Continuing Care group. If you are not ready to quit drinking, the Alcohol Moderation Program may be for you.
