My name is Jamie Shields. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Licensed Chemical Dependence Counselor. My experience with children, teens and adults spans over two decades. I currently specialize in trauma, substance abuse, grief/loss, anxiety, mood disorders. Additionally, I am a Certified EMDR Therapist . I provide an eclectic approach to counseling with my patients by utilizing components of EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and/or Solution Focused Therapy for trauma, anxiety, substance abuse, mood disorders and other obstacles presented during counseling sessions.

Welcome! My areas of focus are couples counseling, marital therapy, and individual therapy to address depression, PTSD, and other trauma related issues. I utilize an eclectic approach and genuinely enjoy working with clients to address their individualized needs. Our sessions together are personalized to your needs, and journey. Utilizing an eclectic sytle of counseling, I adapt theories and techniques to meet each client's need. I believe that it is my role to offer a safe and trusting environment where clients can explore life's challenges and work toward their desired goals. I believe that each client has the capacity to choose what is best for them and to determine the level of influence that particular challenges have in their lives.

While each client has unique needs, my approach is Person-centered and Humanistic. I typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques; however, I have an eclectic approach overall. I sometimes draw interventions from Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also believe it is important to be multifaceted since therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so therapy will be an assimilation of different techniques that are catered to client needs.

Mary works with individuals and couples to address attachment and emotional enmeshment, performance anxiety, moral injury and religious trauma, personality dynamics, and systems that cause people to feel stuck in life and relationships. Using an eclectic, psychodynamic approach to postmodern and constructivist theories, clients can expect to find meaning in problem solving and strengthen interpersonal relationships outside of therapy. In doing so, Mary integrates humor and everyday language in evidence-based therapies to educate clients along the way.

As the daughter of immigrants, I understand first hand the importance of representation in any space and the challenges that come with looking for the American dream. That is why I am so passionate about providing mental health services to the Hispanic/Latin and BIPOC community whether that be in English or Spanish.
