Mariah Spengler is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (LMHC, LCP) with over 29 years of experience in the mental health field. She works with adults 18 and older through all phases of life. Mariah specializes in stress, anxiety management, grief, loss, relationship issues, and life transitions. Mariah received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Furman University. She then received her Master's degree in Kinesiology from Indiana University and her Master's degree in Counseling from Vanderbilt University. She then moved to Florida where she received her Doctorate degree in Counseling.

Hi. I am Karen, and I have been a therapist in the Amarillo area for 20 years. I have worked with people in all phases of their lives as they navigate difficult, troublesome times. I utilize an eclectic style of therapy in an attempt to meet people where they are on their journey. Some of the disciplines that I have found to be most helpful for those facing challenging situations are Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Mindful techniques and Evidence based Trauma Therapies. Everyone experiences challenges in life differently. Sometimes it can feel like walking uphill (challenging, but doable) while other times it can feel like an impossible climb up a steep mountain. When faced alone it can be daunting and become a scary place. Trauma, anxiety, depression, or life struggles can take control of your thoughts and imprison you into thinking you're all alone. Taking a step forward to get help can be difficult, but very brave. I believe in working side by side with you to help you work through life's challenges to find your inner confidence and hidden voice.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Certification in Play Therapy. The full intent of my service is to provide a comfortable partnership in creating a joyful, empowering, and healing experience in the lives of children, adolescence, and adults. In these trying times where we all have feelings of overwhelming anxiety and frustration. The client that I believe would be ideal would need empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. A client who needs someone a therapist that cares about their well-being and is willing to take this journey with them even when it seems too hard to do.

I have extensive experience working with clients in a variety of areas including relationship issues, couples counseling, sex therapy, anxiety, depression, trauma and grief. I work through a person- centered approach helping people overcome what they see as problems that may be affecting their everyday life. I have a passion for helping others to make sense of what they have experienced, how it has impacted them and how to move forward from these experiences so that they can achieve their goals. I believe in meeting the person where they are and working with them to get to where they want to be.

I provide counseling for adults and children who are experiencing persistent sadness, a sense of low worth/esteem, anxiety/worry, panic, heightened sense of stress, frequent irritability, survival/trauma responses due to past trauma experiences, and are affected in important areas of life. I help develop treatment goals to improve mood, sense of worth, coping strategies, behavioral issues, rational/healthy thoughts, anxiety management, trauma healing, and self-care.

You've heard, "Change your thoughts and you change your world." But How? If you are like most people, you have had painful experiences that have continued to affect how you are thinking, feeling or behaving. Those thoughts and feelings have been stored as memories in your brain's neurons, but Your Brain Can Change: this ability to change is called "Neuroplasticity" (Google it!). I have studied many ways to help you clear or minimize those stuck memories away using Clinical Hypnosis, "Pattern Interrupts," and Visualization, to "rewire" your brain. You DO NOT have to re-live and discuss the hurtful details to notice a difference.

Counseling is my second career. I have always been in a helping profession and my journey to becoming a clinician began as a teacher. Helping others has always been a passion of mine whether it was in the classroom or in a counseling office. In every client that I have ever had the privilege to be a part of their journey, it has always been my sincere hope that I could at least plant a seed of hope and inspiration. I see clients with various issues. I focus on teen and women issues but do see individuals for many other issues, such as trauma and depression.
