We might work together for a few sessions during a crisis, or maybe we will take the long-haul approach and explore lifelong patterns and deeply-rooted belief systems. My therapy style is IFS (parts work) based, eclectic, trauma informed, race conscious, and strengths- focused. As part of the LGBTQ+ community, I embrace all lifestyles and identities. My practice is gender/ non-binary affirming, kink positive, polyam & consensual non-monogamy friendly, and I am able to provide WPATH SoC v8 letters of support.

I believe I was born a therapist. Caring and understanding others have always been natural parts of me. I believe each of us is born with the inner guidance to grow into the best version of ourselves. But there are many challenges along the way that interfere with that process. Childhood trauma, loss and painful circumstances, make us doubt and lose sight of our inner guidance. We begin to unconsciously work against ourselves; the result is pain in the form of emotional distress, unhealthy choices and hurtful relationships. But we have the ability and even an obligation to ourselves and family to heal and rediscover our true selves.

Donnie Joseph has 27 years of experience working in social service and counseling spaces. During that time he has worked to counsel and support people during challenging times in their lives- whether in a psychiatric unit, emergency department, an outpatient substance abuse program, a long-term residential adolescent program, or a stabilization unit, Donnie considers it an honor and a privilege to stand alongside people and be a source of support during these vulnerable times.

I work best with motivated individuals who will work with me and be courageous enough to be honest about their thoughts, feelings, and fears. My clients are expected to do assignments, readings, and offer feedback. I thoroughly enjoy seeing the progress that a child or an adult can make through self discovery that counseling offers. My work has focused on mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder primarily), anxiety disorders, trauma and issues related to gender identity and sexuality. We serve individuals who are facing legal problems related to DWI, DWAI, DWAI drugs, possession charges, etc., by providing a substance use or impaired driver assessment and follow up. We also help partners and families of those experiencing alcohol or drug problems with codependency, marital and family problems. As Substance Abuse Professionals, we provide assessment, education, and treatment for DOT and other employees who have been referred to a SAP following a positive test for alcohol or other drugs.
