I deliver compassionate and professional psychological evaluation and psychotherapy to the people of Holland, Zeeland, and surrounding areas.

We are all journeying through life, and it is a privilege for me to be welcomed into your story. Of all the people I have met in all the locations I have traveled to, I have found the following to be true: though each story is unique, everyone faces challenges, and everyone has the need to be heard, to be valued, and to be loved. I care deeply about all people and aim to demonstrate that by valuing who you are as an individual and listening attentively to your story. I view counseling as a collaborate process in which we work together to meet your unique needs.

I believe that every person that comes into therapy has the right to have their own individual life journey be the focus of therapy. I listen to the wants, and concerns of the client and then together we develop a strategy that the client(s) will be willing to apply to their lives. I have many tools from an eclectic range or psychological fields and a lifetime of real-life applications that I offer to each client.

My personal theoretical foundation is not limited to one approach. I believe it is necessary for counselors to be adaptive. Every client is different and our responses and approaches should be equally diverse. One person may need a cognitive behavioral approach whereas another would be more responsive to brief counseling. This eclectic approach will be applied to all clients. Techniques will vary between clients to best meet the individual client's needs.

At Susan Hofland Counseling I am passionate about people. There are times in life when you are struggling, or your kids are struggling and you simply do not know what to do. The office is quite unique - - very large, ultra comfy, w/MANY natural oddities... slightly chaotic -- like life! Good strong coffee/tea/soda & munchies always available. Pets welcome. I'm adopted myself, a licensed foster parent, & work with trauma and attachment. I have a multi-cultural family & lived abroad (Africa). I have worked as a Hospice Social Worker, an outpatient therapist for Pine Rest, and as a therapist treating adults with major mental health disorders with two Community Mental Health organizations.
