Before I became a therapist myself, I earned a Ph.D. in an allied field and spent 16 years teaching, at UCLA, USC, and Antioch University West; then I went back to school for clinical training. I specialized in children and families as a base and then went further for psychoanalytic training, one program for adults, another for children and adolescents.
