I specialize in working with kids, teens, and young adults with depression, anxiety, school issues, trauma, and eating disorders.
Whether you are seeking support for your child/teen, feeling overwhelmed with a life transition, or finding yourself worrying too much about different things, we can work together to create more balance in your life. Together we will explore unhelpful thoughts, patterns, and behaviors that are keeping you stuck and find new ways of coping with the challenges you are facing. I use a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy with elements of play therapy, CBT, DBT, and family-based treatment to support each client in their own journey.

My psychotherapy practice is informed by my extensive training and experience on the Klarman Eating Disorders Unit at McLean Hospital and at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
My patients are typically older adolescents, college students, and adults who are facing a range of difficulties relating to relationships, changes, school, work, or body image. In a psychotherapy treatment, I aim to build a genuine connection with my patients and work collaboratively with them to deepen an understanding of behavior. I am trained to listen closely for underlying dynamics that might be contributing to current symptoms or troubles, and I work tactfully to address this with my patients to help reduce symptoms and experience more fulfillment and freedom in the many dimensions of their lives.

My “ideal” client is you! I welcome pretty much anyone who needs help. Psychotherapy is always about the supportive relationship between therapist and client, no matter what the specific orientation of the clinician. We can approach the issue from any number of angles. These angles, or techniques, are: whatever works. Period. Whatever brings you relief. I will work very hard for you.

The transformational “magic” in therapy occurs when an alliance develops between therapist and client—when you feel truly seen, heard, and understood. I am here to listen deeply and journey alongside you as we discover ways to help you to get beyond patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you and move into a more hopeful, satisfying, and life-affirming future. Over the years, I've worked with couples, families, and individuals to address issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, family conflict, grief/loss, trauma, school issues, sexual orientation, aging, infertility, pregnancy, and self-esteem.

Do you feel like other people are having a better experience in life than you are? Do you have the idea that you're experiencing more stress, more dissatisfaction, facing more issues? Would you like to get along with your children or parents better, or develop the relationship with your partner? Are you trying to figure out these things on your own? Many find it difficult to turn to someone else to get help with what we feel we 'should' be able to manage alone. Truth is, we're meant to seek out support from those around us.

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist that has been practicing since 2016. I believe that any person entering therapy has a ton of courage. It's hard to finally open up- let alone to a stranger. I am here to facilitate a safe environment to talk and most of all to listen. It is not always easy to start the journey of self understanding and care. So many feel stuck in a rut and feel they have no options in life. I am here to help you understand yourself as well as to help you see the numerous paths you can take in life. "It's not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain." -Vivian Greene.

Specializing in eating disorders, anxiety, and trauma, my practice is built on the belief that everyone already has within them the resources to heal, grow, and thrive.
My clients often come to therapy grappling with uncertainty, high stress, or loneliness in their lives. Sometimes they are feeling intense emotions, or behaving in ways that are confusing and frustrating for them. They may be feeling disconnected from other people, or feeling overly worried about how others perceive them. They are seeking more connection, peace and balance in their day-to-day.

You only have one body & accepting it might seem impossible. Many people turn to food, exercise, perfectionism, & anxiety to cope. However, they find themselves caught in an unbreakable cycle of unhappiness. Speaking with a therapist helps you to identify your unhelpful patterns, honor your strengths, create a toolbox of strategies, & learn to talk to yourself with compassion. My specialty is in the treatment of eating disorders, anxiety and body image. Eating disorders rarely exist in isolation. I am experienced in treating co-occurring symptoms including social challenges, family issues, depression, ADHD, & trauma.

Therapy can be a wonderful way to become more self aware, build new skills to address unexpected challenges, heal and move forward. My career in social work is rooted in person centered, solution-focused treatment that highlights the strengths and resiliency of the folks I serve. I encourage clients to interrogate which systems of oppression have molded their sense of self and worldview. I have experience working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, anxiety, trauma, and those wishing to fine tune interpersonal- familial skills.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
