Dr. Jessica Reyka, Psy.D., the founder and owner of Grass Roots Healing, LLC, is a firm believer that in order to reconnect and heal, we must first go back to the "root" of the problem or concern, which often stems far back into one's life, and then work towards healing from an inward-out approach. "The stronger our roots are, the more beautiful the leaves that come from the tree"; similar to the process of therapy where we rebuild the foundation from which you view the world and create a life/beliefs/behaviors that are more in alignment with your true values and authentic self.

"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we'll ever do." ~Brene Brown~ Have you found life hasn't turned out the way you expected? Sometimes that can be a wonderful thing, and other times that reality can be frustrating to accept or work through. I believe those frustrations, when left unaddressed, can and often do lead to feelings of depression and/or anxiety, and can also put a strain on relationships. I believe therapy should be a safe space to give voice to those frustrations and an opportunity for healing.

Are you an athlete who struggles with anxiety before a big game, as you walk onto the practice field, or even as you sit at home? Or perhaps you are someone who is looking to better your mental well-being, improve your sleep, sharpen your focus, or decrease your anxiety and/or depressive symptoms. Whatever the objective may be, I can help you visualize and achieve your goals through neurofeedback and counseling.

I believe that you have the strength to move beyond your pain, into a space of authentic and lasting life fulfillment. I am here to help you tap into this strength. We often get stuck in our minds and disconnect from our bodies, preventing us from accessing the body’s wisdom, intuition, and resilience. Through uniting the mind and the body, you are able to transcend your struggles and embrace the present moment, cultivating a deep connection to your life. Together, we will work to connect to the body’s consciousness, enabling you to move past negative beliefs and patterns while illuminating the empowered essence of who you are.

You feel worn down by shame, self-criticism, and anxiety. You doubt yourself and overanalyze situations or things you've said until you feel embarrassed and exhausted. You've always felt different from others—you wish you didn't have to feel everything so deeply, that you weren't as easily overwhelmed by the "small" things in everyday life. You're past the point of burnout, or you're quickly approaching it. More than anything, you want to trust yourself, feel more confident, and be better able to manage overwhelming and painful feelings when they come up.

I specialize in empowering individuals and couples with tangible tools for transformation. If you have been feeling stuck in how to improve your mood, relationships, performance, or health, but nothing you are trying is really working - I can help. My approach is rooted in the science that unlocking growth, connection, creativity, and opportunities hinges on our brain's ability to access a sense of safety in a world that has desensitized us to our own stress response. Most of us know what we want our lives to look like, but struggle to make it our reality. Call me if you feel stuck. More info on website.

We cannot always control the situations we find ourselves in but we can choose how to react to them. I believe change comes from vulnerability, respect, and an ability to lean into the uncomfortable. In our work together, I aim to create a safe and nonjudgmental space which will enable you to explore yourself and create the resilience you will need to face adversity. I see challenges as an opportunity for growth and believe one can always learn from mistakes.

If you're tired of constantly feeling like you need to regain control of your life, I get it. It's common to channel anxiety and stress into productivity, controlling food and criticism for our bodies. We know shame is not a sustainable motivator for change, yet so often it's the tool we come back to time and time again. I enjoy helping clients unpack internalized shame to explore what is holding them back from a more fulfilling life.

I work with men and women who have endured past trauma and have trouble navigating work, relationships, and life on a day-to-day basis. Anger, rage, shame, addiction, anxiety, hiding, emotional cut-offs, broken relationships, isolation, and depression often come from a deeper pain and past trauma. We don't always have the words to address these issues or feel like we're "allowed to" have them. We can compartmentalize and focus on "just getting the next job done", but after a while we have to deal with our emotional pain as it may keep us from moving forward.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
