I particularly enjoy working with teens and young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, eating disorders and trauma.
You are not the problems you are dealing with. The fundamental belief that guides my practice as a psychotherapist is that all of us are worthy, lovable and creative beings capable of thriving and sustaining meaningful relationships. But there are times when we may lose sight of that. Perhaps you have been functioning well for years, but something has happened to upset your equilibrium or temporarily overwhelm your ability to cope. Perhaps you have been harboring feelings of inadequacy your whole life. In either instance, I can help reacquaint you with your strength and purpose, and innate worthiness.

I have expertise in working with individuals and families struggling with chronic illness, eating disorders, grief, anxiety, depression, adolescent concerns, parenting, relationship & marital difficulties, and family cultural or generational conflicts.
Every person has their own unique process of healing and growth. Psychotherapy is a valuable pathway toward finding balance and wholeness in your life. As your therapist, I approach my work with profound respect for your individual nature, values, and beliefs. Psychotherapy is essentially a collaborative process in which we work together to explore the difficulties you're facing and find solutions that will work for you. Real possibilities for meaningful change can emerge when the essence of your 'self' is genuinely understood. My goal is to support your journey as you move towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.

I specialize in the treatment of trauma and all its various manifestations: Depression/Anxiety, Substance use/addictions, Eating disorders, Disassociation/Derealization, Chronic stress, Relationship discord/Infidelity, PTSD, and Complex trauma.
“Be yourself! Everyone else is already taken…” – Oscar Wilde. Being yourself is often easier said than done. As a trauma therapist, I see how easy it is for negative experiences to hinder our ability to be the people we want to be and create a life we want to live. Our bodies and minds are amazingly adaptable—we manage to find ways to survive horrible life events—but these survival instincts were meant to be used on a short-term basis. Traumas—big or small—are stored in the body and affects our ability to connect with others, to trust, and to feel safe in the world. The good news is, healing is possible!

My trauma-focus helps resolve addictions and eating disorders with Certified Brainspotting.
Clients seek me out sometimes years into trying typical CBT/DBT life-skills therapies. They feel they need something more than self-regulation skills to feel understood, desiring to know themselves on a deeper plane of existence. My depth psychology approach is a soulful dive into Psyche: the Jungian unity of unconscious Dreams, Motivators, and Shadow, -married to your consciously-lived life. When unconscious patterns conflict with our known desires, we become stuck, feeling anxiety, depression, disconnected from ourselves and from humanity. Is it time to embark on a different journey of self-discovery? Schedule a free consultation!

Each session is tailored to your unique needs & personal goals. Long-lasting symptom relief/decreased suffering & achieving a more fulfilling life are priorities that guide my work with clients.

I specialize in mourning and grief, depression, impulsivity often tied to some eating disorders, and anxiety.
Deciding to come into treatment is never an easy decision even when it feels necessary. I work from a psychoanalytic-psychotherapy approach meaning I'm most interested in what your experience is. What that means is that through careful listening and dialogue, I'll work with you to better identify and understand what may be behind painful symptoms like lack of impulse control, binge eating, depression that's so heavy you can't get out of bed, or the terrible grief that comes from losing a loved one.

Anchor Psychotherapy, Inc. - Traumatic memory appears without warning. It stops you in your tracks, invades, and overwhelms. In a moment’s notice, your body and brain feel hijacked. No matter what you try and bury it under: work, food, relationships – it’s still there. You may dissociate or maybe you’re watching it happen across the room, in your child’s face. You never asked for this, but, then again, neither did they. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your family, or the child in your life, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and walk through this with you.

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
