My other specialties are trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, and anxiety.
Would you like to reconnect to your authentic self? Are you fed up with doing the same things that don't work? As a therapist, I provide a safe place to become curious about experiences that burden you from enjoying your life. Do you want to stop criticizing yourself? Do you want to find relief from extreme behaviors, anxiety, and depression? Possibly you feel isolated from others or altered by a traumatic experience. I am listening. I welcome all aspects of you to be heard.

Hi. Come talk about what matters to you most. Together, we walk. Explore. Meander. Clarify. I love what I do and will help you feel better. I can help with multicultural issues, relocation, or if you're struggling with addiction, overcoming trauma, relationships, questions about polyamory, depression or abuse. If life has lost its meaning and you’re missing adventure, intimacy, greater self-expression and passion, let’s go. If you don’t talk about it, it won’t get better. I’m supportive, alternative, warm and kind. You’ll feel comfortable, and challenge thoughts and perceptions preventing you from getting out of your own way.

My "ideal" client is between 14 and 99 years old, motivated, able to engage in honest dialogue, and willing to step back and re-evaluate themselves and their lives with fresh eyes, through psychotherapy. They understand that my role is not to “solve” their problems; rather, it is to provide a fresh perspective and to assist them as they seek their own, unique answers that honor their hard-won life experience and inner wisdom. My approach is to encourage authenticity, sharing laughter, tears, frustrations, and gratitude frequently and openly. In over 30 years of clinical experience, there are few issues that I haven't encountered.

“We are all on a journey of some sort, whether it is one of healing, new beginnings, pleasure, or life transition. Sometimes we encounter storms and obstacles that shake us and may make us feel as if we are lost or maybe incapable of overcoming the storm.” These storms may be recognized as anxiety, depression, loss of a loved one, job or home. Creating therapeutic trust and emotional safety are two of my greatest strengths as a therapist. I will work with you to create an environment in which you can discover your own truth and authentic self, and increase your capacity to make healthy life choices and find fulfilling relationships.

If you find yourself struggling, feeling overwhelmed or experiencing painful emotions in your everyday life or perhaps experiencing triggers from past trauma, I work with people like you, who sometimes get stuck in a cycle of self-defeating behavior in your personal life and relationships. Together we can address your needs of improving your quality of life such as helping you manage stress and anxiety. We would start by creating a collaborative relationship. I facilitate this by doing my best to create a comfortable space where you can share not only your issues, but one that helps shape your ideas for growth and change

I am passionate about helping all who feel stuck, lost, or forgotten. I firmly believe everyone deserves to find their voice, and to write their own story. I also know that sometimes help is needed to rewrite this story - which perhaps has gotten derailed through trauma and hard times - and I am ready to give that support. Personable and focused, I work side by side with my clients to help them create the movement they seek.

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
