Hi! My name is Duncan Shumway. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have been in the field for over a decade. I am licensed in the state of Utah to provide clinical psychotherapy. 8334263-6004 is my license number. My approach to therapy is client-centered and I work with teenagers to adults. I have worked in several different areas of mental health counseling throughout my career, from teenagers, TBI and spinal cord injuries, adults, couples, to incarcerated individuals.
The therapeutic alliance between therapist and client is the most determinative factor in whether symptoms improve, across all therapeutic modalities. I strive to create a safe and secure space for clients where they can feel comfortable and continue the healing process.
I became a therapist because human behavior is fascinating! Inside each of us is the human element, or that uniqueness that is only inherent to human beings and our behaviors. I believe that personal learning and growth come best when we understand ourselves through others and understand others through ourselves.
