I have worked extensively with adults and adolescents for over 30 years and have a good understanding of childhood issues.I work with individuals and families with a focus on emotions.I believe that all people have resources to solve problems.I am easy to talk to and I have great listening skills.I have worked with individuals who are depressed and with adolescents in public education with great success I also have an extensive background in substance abuse and am certified to work with clients on Suboxone (Buprenorphine) for treatment of opiate addiction.

My methods are deeply rooted in empathy, aided by a caring heart and an analytical mind, as well as an ability to build strong relationships and enlist clients' cooperation in facing life’s journeys. I use plain and even colorful language to create an atmosphere of safety, trust, honesty, openness, understanding, and growth. More than 7 of my years in practice have been dedicated to in-home therapy services. I have seen first-hand how much more at ease my clients are when completing sessions at home. I add to that comfort by bringing open-minded kindness, honesty, and respect to all households.

Life is really hard these days, with a constant pressures and stressors. It is common to feel stuck in being able to create changes relating to depression, anxiety, and traumas. You want to create changes in your life, feel that you deserve to feel better, but haven't figured out what you need to do to create that change. The feelings of anxiety, sadness and inability to connect fully with other people in your life is persistent. I'm here to help work to decrease that stress.

Clients come to me for relief of symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to learn to process how trauma or complex trauma may be impacting their lives today and how to move forward from it. They also seek to gain insight into why they do what they do, to improve their agency or control over their own lives, to learn how to recognize and deal with feelings, to build their self-esteem and to find more pleasure and serenity in their lives. As we work towards the goals clients become ready and willing to make the real behavioral changes that will make a positive difference in their lives.

I have been working with children and adolescents in school settings for over 20 years, first as a Special Education Teacher and then as a School Counselor. Through this work, I helped my adolescents and young adults develop executive functioning skills, organizational skills, and goal setting to help them transition into their future endeavors. Now, as a Student Assistance Counselor, I work with adolescents in a high school supporting their mental health needs and substance abuse issues. As a LPC, my goal is to help my clients explore the root of their distress, identify needs and wants and work toward a more balanced life.

The Koch Center (located in Montclair, Morristown, Waldwick, & Englewood) specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Therapy and Programs for Adults, Adolescents, Children, and Families. Our DBT Programs offer an opportunity to receive extensive support and expert treatment in an outpatient setting. We treat the full range of psychological issues (including Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Impulse Control disorders, Eating Disorders, Trauma, Relationship Problems, Personality Disorders). We have an outpatient Trauma Program for Adults. We also offer individual therapy from varying theoretical orientations.

I will provide you assistance in dealing with stress, dysphoric moods and unhealthy coping in addition to coaching. I will provide you with support and help you to develop healthy coping skills to manage emotional dysregulation including depression and anxiety, as well as dealing with life events, trauma, and relationships including marriage and family therapy using a person-centered, family systems approach with CBT, mindfulness techniques, and holistic psychotherapy.
