"What's wrong with me?" is often the burning question our clients ask when entering our counseling office. Often times we're not the first office in which they have tried to answer this question. Revive Counseling Spokane's counselors will instead ask, "What has happened to you?" It can be difficult to piece together the impact of shame, betrayal, neglect and abuse from our past, but our counselors know how to guide you through the healing process to restore your sense of peace, control and vitality. Trained by the EMDR Institute, we will help you get past your past.

Adolescence and early adulthood is one of the most trying times in a person's life. The journey of self-identity is difficult enough, and when mental or behavioral health disorders complicate or accompany this experience, the process can be all that more difficult. I enjoy meeting people where they are and helping teens and young adults work through identity issues, personal struggles, or complex life transitions. I have extensive knowledge and experience treating anxiety, depression, substance use disorders and enjoy the unique elements each of my clients bring to the therapy process.

Feeling anger, anxious, betrayal, broken, defeated, loss, pain, or overwhelmed; unsure how to express your emotions or continue to live. There have been many times in my life when I have needed a counselor. Whether it was to help in figuring out my next step in school, what track I needed to take in college, or even talking about my own personal struggles, counselors have played a role in my life and have helped me achieve many of my goals. I came to appreciate the role of a counselor and the hard work and dedication it takes to walk alongside clients and their journey. Therapy is hard work, and it is a task that many don’t want to face alone.

Currently accepting new clients. Trauma, attachment, + identity impact people in different ways. Do you often feel detached or numb? Do you avoid thinking about the past or self-medicate? Are you concerned about your parenting? Do you often find yourself in difficult relationships? Are you concerned about your memory? Do you feel sad or anxious a lot? Are you "stuck" in the same pattern? Do you have trouble trusting people? Are you irritable most of the time? Do you feel like you don't know yourself or your purpose? Do you feel incomplete or want meaning in life? If you answered yes to any-I believe I could be a good fit for you.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
