I believe that therapy needs to be personalized to the individual and the goals that you have for yourself. Therapy is also a partnership between the therapist and the client. I often compare my view of therapy to a GPS; with you in the driver's seat, you select the destination you'd like to reach, and I'll help figure out a way to get us there. Empathy and therapeutic rapport are a foundation in my approach to practice; I have a genuine interest and investment in the lives of those that I work with, having compassion in all our interactions, while at the same time, also challenging you to work towards growth.

I am passionate about trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBQT concerns, personality disorders, and neurodivergence. An ideal client is an individual who has a growth mindset and explores their thoughts and feelings and how they impact their behavior. They may not understand how those thoughts derived from past experiences, but they are willing to open old wounds given the right tools. They feel safe and secure and want to heal through hard work and determination.

I am attentive, professional with healing in mind. I use evidence base therapies to assist with the healing process of the client. My sole purpose is to help the client work through issues and except change no matter where or how that happens.

I practice with adults of all ages, older adolescents and couples.  I treat clients with problems related to depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship/marriage conflicts, substance abuse issues and those individuals who struggle with emotional regulation.   I have worked in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health counseling, residential treatment, felony court, and inpatient counseling.  I believe the best treatment modality is important for success.  I practice using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and a few others.

My name is Stephen Brown, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in Northeast Ohio and seeing clients throughout the state via telehealth. I work with adolescents and adults specializing in stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients find positive solutions to start feeling better. I have found that my approach is effective for teens and adults struggling with the challenges and stressors of life, which take the forms of depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma.

Dr. Dunn is a licensed clinical psychologist with experience and expertise in providing treatment to adults. He was born and raised in Holmes County, Ohio. He served as a U.S. Air Force Psychologist for four years before establishing a private practice in Columbus, and then in 1998 opened New Life Counseling in Dover. In addition to treatment of depression, anxiety, and marital and family problems, he provides more specialized treatment in pain management. He lives with his wife and two children near Dover, and they are active in a local church.
