Together we can discover what no longer serves you. Whether you are contemplating change or stuck in a pattern of choices that bring unhappiness or frustration, I work with individuals to help clear the path and reclaim the disconnection to their authentic selves. As a recovery coach with 34 years of personal experience, I provide coaching for people and their family members struggling with alcohol or drug abuse, (recreational or prescription). I believe all individuals have the answers within; they are the best experts.

I specialize in providing one-on-one sober support to clients who are struggling with alcohol and or drug abuse issues. I also provide my clients with a personalized health and wellness plan. The goal is to help you live and maintain a sober life. We will work together daily for three months. Getting sober and living sober at home is what I believe is a better approach than attending a rehab. Why? At a rehab, you are going through the process of getting sober with others and the transition of coming home often is an adjustment within the family and getting back to the daily routines. You can get sober at home!

I am a physician offering MAT, Medication-Assisted-Treatment for addiction to opioids and alcohol. These meds can help people stay off heroin, opioids, and alcohol - offering time to address the root of the problems, pains and sufferings that people are escaping from. Many times people who use drugs and alcohol have had difficult experiences at home growing up. With decent therapy they can rebuild their inner strength and become functioning adults again without needing alcohol and drugs as crutches. They can learn to love themselves the way they are, and move on in life.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
