As a former Substance Use Disorder Counselor, I could see how clients were desperately seeking a way to cope with deep trauma. I wanted to dive deeper. I wanted to help others get to the root of their problems.

I am a licensed mental health counselor and graduate of Columbia University, and have been providing mental health services since 2006. My practice incorporates the client’s input and feedback, which in my experience is essential to achieving insight. I believe that the best therapy does not end with achieving insight, but should extend to helping my clients develop a practical plan for turning insight into action. My job isn’t complete until I have helped my clients foster the resilience and self-reliance necessary for managing daily challenges on their own.

I am a licensed psychologist who has been in private practice for 38 years. You may be reluctant to consult a psychologist even though you feel overwhelmed and stressed. You might think that it is a weakness to talk to a professional about your situations or problems. I provide Substance Abuse Assessments and early intervention education. I work with families, couples, individuals and children. I have experience working with trauma, depression, dual diagnosis, children with autism, ADHD, and ADD.I have training in play therapy, EMDR, Gottman methods and mindfulness based treatment modalities. I have also worked as a domestic violence advocate for the Navy and worked with military families.

I also treat depression, anxiety, addictions (including substance abuse), trauma, and a variety of other psychological concerns. I routinely work with individuals' physicians and a variety of other practitioners to create a comprehensive treatment plan. I am an anger management specialist, certified by the National Association for Anger Management Specialists as well as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). I am also a certified EMDR therapist.

Psychological trauma occurs when our level of stress exceeds our ability to cope with that stress. When this happens, our subconscious minds often develop cognitive distortions and a disregulated nervous system (stuck in fight-or-flight survival mode) that can then lead to maladaptive behaviors.
