More than 20 years of experience assisting the Mexican/Latino families in their own language has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. It has been a privilege for me to help families not only from Bakersfield, but from all cities of Kern County and its surroundings.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I take a humanistic perspective, utilizing both psychodynamic and holistic approaches to support my clients moving toward their valued direction and developing the skills to do so. Only by taking the time to explore your inner-workings, can we begin to identify and eradicate what doesn’t work by developing strategies & moving towards what does, allowing a healthy authentic adult version of you to emerge.

I understand how difficult sharing life altering memories can be for people. Just ignoring unresolved issues will not make the pain any less. Addressing old hurt, anger, fears, and other emotions will assist in gaining a better sense of self. My goal is to help people with the thoughts that keep them up at night. We can’t change the past, but we can change how we process old grief and allow past trauma to impact our lives.

Not accepting new clients
It takes so much courage to ask for help. In my twenty plus years as a therapist I have been humbled time and again as clients make that call and come in for sessions. People come in to talk about some of the most difficult things, from childhood abuse to a struggling marriage. It has been a privilege to be of service to so many people. I often get asked how I can listen to peoples stories of hurt and pain and I answer that it is difficult but so hopeful. That is because people don’t have to stay in that place of emotional, psychological, spiritual, or relational pain.

I offer that same health and healing if you're recovering from trauma, alcohol and drug abuse.
Available immediately. I work with people confronting the consequences of sexual addiction and compulsion. If you’re dealing with the shame of your own sexual behavior or suffering from the painful discovery of an addicted partner’s infidelity (again?), you have suffered enough. Betrayal trauma is all consuming. By booking a consultation with me to honestly confront the problem, you begin the process of restoring your sanity and sexual integrity. You’ll get empathy, understanding and safety to uncover feelings, secrets, lies and patterns that no longer serve you. Making informed decisions about your future begins here.

Pain and grief are universal. How we deal with it and heal sets us apart from each other. Sometimes, we get stuck and can't see how to move. It's like standing in a dark room with a flashlight but no idea where to point it and in what direction to walk. I am here to say you are not alone; together, we can work on bringing the light back to those dark rooms. Raised in Los Angeles I moved to Orange County and attended Hope International University, receiving my Masters In Marriage and Family Therapy. I began working as a therapist with under-resourced families and have had the privilege of working with substance abuse clients

Whether you are coming to therapy because you are battling addiction, have relationship issues, unresolved trauma, or are striving for more balance in your life, I am here to help. Making an appointment with a therapist takes courage and is the first step toward personal growth and change. Some people come to therapy to improve their communication skills while others come to explore their unresolved pain that may show up in various symptoms such as, depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. If the underlying pain is not dealt with, life can seem difficult and maybe even unbearable. There is no need to suffer. There is hope.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
