Aloha :) Currently accepting new Kaiser Permanente and HMSA clients. I welcome individuals of all backgrounds and life experiences into this shared work. I provide professional therapeutic services to couples, families, individual adults, adolescents, and children addressing a range of clinical issues. I honor wherever you are on your journey and believe in cultivating space, and curiosity as we navigate this path together. I believe that understanding and compassion are vital for building trust, mutual respect, and openness, all of which are essential in forming a therapeutic relationship that can encourage change. ​

Aloha, I began my journey as a psychotherapist in 2006 and have worked in several settings in California and on Kauai including with severely mentally ill adults in residential treatment, at-risk adolescents in group homes, in a small Jungian analytical practice, and with children and families as an intensive in-home therapist. As a psychotherapist, I aid in lessening the burdens brought forth through talk therapy and working to understand the roots of issues presented. I enjoy listening with the goal of understanding each individual that comes to see me for therapy, and being an ally in life to those who are suffering.

Few things in life are as hard as asking for help. This is especially true if you aren't quite sure what to ask for or how to ask. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that the problems we face are influenced not only by what is happening with us, but also within our relationships with others. Our connections and relationships are important to us and our individual mental and emotional health. So whether I am working with just one person, a couple, or a family, it is not about taking sides, villainizing, victimizing, or blaming. It is about healing, empowering, and recovery.

Aloha! I’m Chanella Asuncion, born and raised on the beautiful island of Kauai. I have worked with Kauai’s families for 15 years and have a wide range of experience working with parenting challenges, domestic violence, early childhood education and mental health crisis intervention. I attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa obtaining my master’s in social work with a focus in behavioral mental health. I focus on working with youth, teens, and adults who may encounter obstacles and challenges in life.

We were brought into this world to have relationships and sometimes conflicts surface where we are unsure of how to respond or manage these situations. We all need support and a hand to guide us to healthier and more successful, peaceful experiences with ourselves, our family members, in our marriage or with our partner, and/or children.

Being Native Hawaiian born & raised on Oahu island, have experience working with Hawaii's Unique Multicultural population. According to a recent study by Krogstad (2015) Hawaii is home to the Nation's Largest Multiracial American population. This means, 1 out of 4 individuals (24%) identify with multiracial or multicultural ancestry. Therefore, to provide "culturally sensitive" therapeutic services, is to, provide "competent" therapeutic services.
