Are you struggling to find meaningful connection or fulfilling relationships? Do you find yourself going back to toxic situations despite your better judgement? Are you generally feeling lost or alone? If any of these questions resonate, I can help. I specialize in working with relational issues and intimacy disorders. In addition, I work with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, lack of connection and trauma. I also work with women and couples experiencing reproductive difficulties, fertility intervention and postpartum adjustment. Additionally, I often work with high achievers and perfectionists.

All too often struggles deplete our energy and leave us feeling down on ourselves. Through rigorous conversation and a highly supportive relationship, I help people gain the clarity and confidence needed to produce desired change. I have extensive training in postmodern therapies, which examine how dominant cultural discourses can have oppressive effects on our lives, identities, and relationships. Prior to working in private practice, I was part of UCLA's network, where I brought social justice aims to integrative models of mental health. I have many years of experience working with couples, families, youth, and adults.

In 2023 and beyond, my work ethic continues: Working together, we greet Pain and Suffering and ask "How will you serve my development?" Psychotherapy isn't about finding perfection, but pursuing wholeness and respecting our Self. It's simple. It's complicated. It can be very difficult, and and there are laughter and surprises to be enjoyed. Go for it: tend to your emotional to-do list, relationship overhaul/finesse, deep discovery, gather energy to take your journey to the next level. Mid-life? Starting out on your own? Starting/ending a relationship? Creative and stuck? Uncertain times require what we have— wisdom and creativity.

I believe everyone deserves a safe place to share life’s challenges, and I enjoy working together with a client to sort out those challenges and achieve goals. Seeking growth through vulnerability and identifying strengths guides my practice.

I provide mental health counseling to help and guide my client(s) find a balanced life by providing a safe space to process and talk about family issues, marital conflict, job stressors, fertility, postpartum, alcohol and substance use along with other mental health concerns they may be experiencing. The therapeutic alliance is the pillar of the therapeutic process and growth. Having worked in this field for almost a decade, I believe my greatest strength is the ability to connect and empathize with my clients while building on their life skills.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
