I believe in the strength of working together to solve life issues. Taking the first step is the hardest; finding a counselor and making the phone call. Congratulations for reaching out to find support and help.

All people have strengths and challenges. Therapy is a process of using those strengths and resources to address problems people face. I'm interested in understanding you and helping you develop a plan to work with your problems and to build on your strengths.

Here you are, looking for some help-so well done, you! Sometimes part of us wants help and another part wants to "do it on our own". Therefore, it is understandable that it might be no small task to make that first call. AND since sorting thoughts, feelings, and worries can feel overwhelming, I appreciate your courage and wisdom in seeking professional assistance, because no one has to do this alone. Getting to "better" is often very collaborative. Together, we can find a healthy and safe way to discover, sort and map the confusion/worry and then move forward. When you are ready, please give me a call. I am right here.

I am currently only accepting new clients for Assessments (ADHD, learning disabilities, mood disorders, etc). Do you feel stuck, or at an impasse in your current life? Perhaps the use of a substance or a behavior has become a larger piece of your life than you wanted it to. It could be that anxiety or depression have kept you from achieving what you want, or being who you want to be. Maybe you’ve had a change in your life that’s been difficult to handle. Perhaps your child/teen is having difficulty at home or in school. I have experience working with clients of all ages, and tailor my approach to each individual.

You’re searching for something, or someone to connect with, right? That’s why you’re here. Finding a therapist can be a very difficult task, especially if you are not feeling your best. You have found the courage to take the first and second steps, which is saying “I need some help and I need to find a therapist.” You are the expert on you, so you know the choices you have made and the consequences, good and bad, that come along with them. Fixating and ruminating on those choices and consequences can lead you to use unhealthy coping mechanisms, leading to you feeling trapped by old habits.

I provide individual, couple and family therapy and specialize in teenagers and adults. I conceptualize concerns through an attachment and family systems perspective and apply solutions. I value evidence-based theories and interventions and holistic treatment getting to the root of the concerns. This brain based approach helps heal trauma, addictions, mood disorders and relationships. I have advanced training in emotionally focused therapy and Gottman Institute couples therapy. I have practiced in inpatient and outpatient settings and own a group therapy private practice. I look forward to helping you grow!

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
