I have built most of my work around studying trauma and the effects it has on a human. Trauma defined is an event or circumstance that is beyond a person's ability to cope properly. Many symptoms like anxiety, depression, dissociation, fatigue, and guilt follow trauma. Trauma is scary and I do not believe we were meant to do life alone. I offer to serve as someone who can collaboratively walk through the trauma with you.

Hello, I'm Chris Sigvaldson, and I'm deeply passionate about helping individuals liberate themselves from the burdens of anxiety, trauma, grief, addiction and depression. I specialize in guiding clients through a spectrum of challenges, addressing not only addiction but also the intricate facets of mental health. Whether it's overcoming anxiety, navigating trauma, processing grief, or managing the weight of depression, my goal is to provide unwavering support.

Life can deal all of us some challenging times, I'm here to help on that journey. My goal is to help you better understand, resolve and find solutions to the challenges and/or trauma in your life. There is hope for all! After being a teacher in public schools for 14 years and a director of a faith-based non-profit that helped troubled teens and parents, for 2 years, I decided to go back to school to become a licensed therapist. I enjoy "walking" beside of people who are hurting and struggling with stress, anxiety, trauma, relationships and/or depression. I work with adults, young adults, teens, and couples. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother trying to love others right where they are.

It is my job to help you develop new ways of thinking and being, so that you can get beyond whatever is holding you back in your life. I use an integrative, wholistic approach which draws on the many disciplines in which I have training. Is your marriage on the brink? Couples arriving at the brink is a necessary stage in every marriage or long-term relationship. That’s right, it’s not IF you get to the Brink, but what you do WHEN you get there.

It can be difficult to ask for help; we may feel weak, hopeless, or disappointed. Asking for help requires strength and courage and may be a journey through both darkness and light. I believe it is important to trust the process, sit with our uncomfortable feelings, and accept our emotions for what they are. Vulnerability, shame, and fear may make it difficult to share, at times, but know this is normal as we navigate change. There is a lot to be learned from our dark times, and, as a therapist, I hope to be alongside you in your journey of growth.

My favorite part about being a counselor is getting to know someone and hear their story. It takes a lot of vulnerability to be able to open up to someone else and I am always grateful that my clients trust me with the most intimate parts of their self. I work with a wide array of clients; from LGBTQ+ community members, survivors of trauma, those struggling with addiction and many other issues that affect an individuals quality of life. The ideal client for me is any individual willing to explore the therapeutic process in order to work towards building the life they desire.

I am equipped to work with individuals who may have personality disorders, suicidal ideation, depression, and/or self-harm. However, I operate from the perspective that the client is the expert. It is my job to empower their autonomy, meaning, and hope already within them. As you color the room, I hope to make the space safe enough to make observations about your values, not mine. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a B.A. from Auburn University and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas. I completed my internship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical School. I also completed a fellowship at the UAB Center for Psychiatric Medicine. I am a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and Board Member of the National Register of Health Providers in Psychology. My areas of expertise include assessment and treatment of addiction, trauma, impulsivity, personality disorders, and mood disorders. I provide individual, marital, family, and group therapy.

Counseling enables people to become empowered by their own personal strengths to attain self-goals. My goal is to help clients identify those strengths in order to overcome obstacles and challenges to create life solutions. Everyone has unique needs and developing individual skills sets is important to their growth. I believe in meeting the client where they are in the present and helping clients continue to grow by maintaining a positive therapeutic relationship.

Life can be amazing but it also can be difficult. If you are looking to take part in therapy there may be some obstacles keeping you from living life the way you envision it. My goal is to help you to find the solutions that satisfy your needs. Through therapy, hard work, and communication I believe we can get to a better place. To me, counseling is not just a way to address a certain feeling or behavior but rather a way to get to know ourselves better so that we may feel more comfortable and confident in the world around us. As a counselor, I believe the most important part of therapy is trusting in the therapeutic relationship so that you are able to uncover ideas about your personality, experiences, and values and how they can help you overcome your concerns and achieve your goals.

Life is not always easy. Anxiety, depression, addiction, conflict, major life changes such as the death of a loved one, entering college, or divorce, etc., and every day stressors can result in loneliness, anger, compulsiveness, and a feeling of hopelessness. However, therapeutic interventions provided in an atmosphere of acceptance and respect allows individuals to develop new ways to overcome and/or cope with life’s challenges. I am eager to listen, help you gain insight, provide resources, and share tools that can help you transition to a life that aligns with your personal values and goals.

I believe anyone can change with the desire to want to change. I feel that having someone to listen to you and talk issues through is important and key to successful growth and change. We are all social beings with hurts, feelings, and issues to work through and I am a therapist that will listen and help you work through your life situations.
