I can't imagine getting much out of only hearing “uh-huh" or the overly used, “how does that make you feel?”. Therapy is helpful when it's a conversation when you are looking for validation or ways to change behaviors or thoughts. Occasional use of humor and swearing can help you lower stress and defenses when stuck in fear, anger, or judgement. I invite you to swear if it helps you express how difficult, unfair, or delightful a situation is. I find this uncensored atmosphere leads to an honest therapeutic relationship. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, or life stressors, you may find these techniques useful and validating.
I’m passionate about working with those who are misunderstood or underrepresented; whether that’s identity, non-monogamy, sexuality, or striving to break from expected “societal norms”. Overwhelming feelings of needing to conform can often drown out our real wants and needs. It can be scary to be different, and it helps to have a different kind of therapist.
Finding the right therapist can be a daunting task, one that we take on during moments of distress and when we are in need of help. My consults are 30 minutes in length, though the site marks any consults as 15 minutes. During that time, you are free to ask me any questions or voice concerns in order to help you decide if I'm the right therapist for you.
