As a gay man, I know from experience what it’s like to worry if your therapist is an ally. Feeling safe is crucial for therapy to be effective, and that’s why my therapy practice is dedicated to helping LGBT+ people. In therapy, I create a warm, nonjudgmental, open space where you can freely explore what is coming up for you. You're the expert on you, so I ask lots of questions. I use humor and self-disclosure to foster growth and deepen rapport. Last but not least, I am trained in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous psychological disorders such as depression, which we can draw upon if needed.
Most of my clients are gay men, and I’ve worked with many bisexual, lesbian, and trans clients over the years. I was a human sexuality researcher before opening my therapy practice, and I've published over 20 peer-reviewed academic papers and book chapters, some of which were covered by the media, including the New York Times, Huff Post, and Cosmo.
I am sex positive! Some of the topics clients and I discuss: Exploring/questioning sexual and gender identity; coming out; open/poly relationships; hooking-up and Grindr; exploring kinks; sexual racism; trauma; being an LGBT+ parent; internal homophobia; and coping with experiences of prejudice and discrimination.
