Announcement icon During social distancing, I am doing online or phone therapy.
Individuals, couples, and families have unique life stories and come to therapy with a problem they have failed to resolve. Problems do not inhabit an individual; they arise in the relationship to others, to cultural contexts, to illness, to financial pressures, or to ethical dilemmas. Clients come to therapy because they are ready to see their lives in a new light. Clients can resolve their problems by exploring the landscapes of their lives and by creating new stories or rediscovering old stories of forgotten strengths to support their well-being. The ideal client is one who values therapeutic collaboration.
Having meditated for 50 years and taught yoga for 30 years, I understand the value of these practices. I also know that integrating psychotherapy and body/mind practices can enhance progress in both. Bringing mindful awareness and non-judgmental curiosity into the therapeutic collaboration is extremely effective.
Sexuality is an important aspect of our health and well-being. My doctoral research centered on the difficulty of talking about taboo subjects. Sex therapy rarely stands alone; relational issues are important. Problems can echo across many parts of our lives. The good news is that so can solutions.
