I have always wanted to work with children, including teenagers, and their families. My fellow therapists and co-workers have told me numerous times that I have a special ability to connect with kids and teens, and to establish rapport - usually immediately. I read the body language of kids, and the non-verbal cues, that others seem to miss. Then, I just reach right out there and connect with the kid's feelings and concerns. I often hear kids say things like "you're different", and "you really know what I'm talking about".
Parents are often amazed that their kids will open up and talk to me, and are willing to try to change. But the best part is that I really enjoy relating to them. I'm not afraid to be silly, to share, or to understand their often very different worlds.
I'm an expert in the treatment of physical cutting as an inappropriate way to express emotion, and I help cutters to understand their behavior, and to replace it with positive coping skills, self-soothing and feelings expression. I am also open to parenting, and other groups. Domestic violence is also a specialty.
