Licensed Professional Counselor, EdS, LPC, CPCS, NCC
People seek counseling because they feel overwhelmed and unable to take active control of their lives. Distress often results from making ineffective responses in familiar situations, unconsciously repeating mistakes. I believe that as people become more aware of the choices they make and the choices they could make instead, they can gain more personal power and lead more satisfying lives. The goal of counseling is to help clients gain an increased sense of independence and learn to act rather than react; in short, the goal is to enable clients to approach life not as victims, but as volunteers.
I encourage collaborative relationships, with clients taking the lead role. Together, we seek to learn what is causing their distress and what they can do to bring about change. My role is not to tell clients what to do but to help them find the insights and resources within themselves.
As a husband, father, grandfather, and professional, I bring extensive life experience to the counseling relationship. I use an interpersonal focus to help people learn to take active control of themselves and their lives, so they can live according to their own best interests rather than those of others.

As a professional therapist, I interviewed and met with several licensed professional supervisors. I have been with Don for 6 years and highly recommend his skills.
I have known Don since 2012, and he has been an incredible colleague, teacher, and friend. With Don's experience and isight, he has helped me through countless obstacles and confusing situations. Each time we met I took avid notes becasue I know the information I learned is not only valid for that particular day and time but also for the rest of my career. Even though I took every class my university required and took the test our national board came up with, I have learned far more through interacting with Don. His philosophy on how to be a Professional Counselor is one that I will try to emulate, and his executions is only something I can only dream to come close to. Don has been clear that there is no such thing as a "Guru", but he is as close to one as I can find.
