I am an experienced trauma therapist with expertise in working with individuals who have experienced sexual and interpersonal violence.
I provide affirming and trauma-informed care which conceptualizes individual mental health within a sociopolitical and cultural context. This is particularly important to understanding the experiences of individuals within invalidating and discriminatory environments. I know the impacts of minority-based stress and trauma cannot be addressed merely through changing your thinking. My aim is to help you develop coping skills, insight, and resiliency to thrive in our challenging world. Additionally, as a queer therapist, I aspire to offer a safe space for LGBTQIA+ identity exploration. I specialize in PTSD and gender dysphoria.

I believe that "a difference to be a difference, must make a difference". I have spent most of my adult life working with people to make things different. I got my PhD in Psychology from Yale University and received a diverse training - from children and adolescents to adults and veterans. Many people at times need a listener, someone to help them figure things out, someone to help them change. I try my best to be that person. Prior to my psychology training, I was a physical therapist - and I hope that my awareness of illness and handicaps adds a dimension to my work as needed

You may be enduring life. Better to to experience it. Fully. But so much is happening, causing stress and strife. However you can recover from such difficulty, making the possible arise from the impossible. Yes, you will become, and I can assist. I have been privileged to work with individuals facing personal challenges in the rehabilitation field, in a college environment, and in private practice. Allow me to help you through the hills and valleys. Take the time to renew inner strength and resolve to move forward to great things.

I believe that the more you put into therapy, the more you get out of it. Therapy is not solely a place to vent, but an avenue to strategize real behavioral changes to improve your life and relationships. By making a conscious effort to implement those changes outside of the therapy office and taking responsibility for yourself, you are most likely to benefit from treatment. I am a masters-level, Connecticut-licensed clinician with over 20 years of experience in outpatient and residential treatment. I am a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a clinical supervisor.

So you've had enough. You've had enough of people acting like you don't have a life of your own, your issues to worry about, your stress- because they expect you to solve their problems. When you've been drowning in work and stress, they give you a high five instead of a life vest. You're not looking for anyone to save you; you want a break, some appreciation, and maybe even some peace. It doesn't seem like too much to ask.

I have been in private practice for over 30 years and believe that people can truly change their lives. People can take very difficult experiences in their lives and use them to develop a more meaningful life. I draw from my own experiences while I work with my clients and believe that change can happen at any age. People can use grief, loss, trauma and life's most difficult experiences to develop meaning that they may never have had. Finding your own spirituality and your own style of coping is what makes it unique.

I provide hybrid clinical therapy and telehealth services to individual and families seeking mental health support in a safe clinical environment. I believe that everyone needs support throughout their life span in order to be best version of themselves. The greatest challenge to seeking support is dealing with the stigma of how therapeutic counseling is perceived. It is my focus to create an, inviting, safe and caring environment for each of my clients to unburden, to address their stress/trauma and begin the healing process.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
