I have training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and am on the AR Best website for TF-CBT to help with abuse .
Each day we take a walk on our own personal journey through life. Our journeys will take many different paths, twists and turns we will have to navigate. Sometimes we can navigate the journeys by ourselves and at others we may need someone to walk beside us. I have walked with people of all ages, from age 3-adulthood on their journeys since 2004. Up to this point my personal journey has been working with agencies, but now I have decided to take my own journey into a private practice setting.

I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor with additional certifications in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Juvenile Sexual Offenders Program.
People may be dealing with family stresses such as a result of a job loss. Perhaps a child trying to cope with bullying issues. Or maybe battling depression, anxiety, addictions or other traumas. Many experience emotions too difficult to discuss. This leaves some feeling so low that nothing matters anymore. Unable to see a way out of the darkness they feel stuck, helpless, and hopeless. But there is hope.

I have experience working with individuals and families affected by interpersonal trauma, and am familiar with the systems that serve children that have experienced abuse.
Life transitions, unexpected changes, and traumatic events can impact our sense of self: what we believe about who we are, how we show up in the world, and how we interact with others. As a therapist, my goal is to provide an empowering, nurturing environment in which to discover a path towards healing, growth, and a more authentic connection with one’s self and with others, particularly following traumatic events. I strive to be affirming of the experiences of clients in the LGBTQ community, as well as other culturally marginalized and/or oppressed communities, and strive to meet clients wherever they are in their journey.

I specialize in treating adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, intimate partner violence, substance abuse, behavioral modification, grief, self-image, and other life difficulties.
I can think of no greater responsibility than keeping someone’s secrets or any greater joy than holding someone’s hand while they do the difficult work of changing their lives. I became a therapist because I believe in our ability to CHANGE. The ability to change is one of our greatest gifts and abilities, but in life sometimes we get STUCK. Stuck in bad relationships, stuck in dead-end jobs, or stuck in patterns of behavior that keep us miserable and defeated. My job and my joy is to help you get UN-stuck.

I have worked with clients coping with various mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, domestic violence, or other severe trauma.
I specialize in Equine Therapy as well as traditional office psychotherapy. I take a mindfulness approach to "holding space" for my clients. I also recently completed an externship and Core Skills in Emotion Focused Therapy which allows me to do some pretty tough work with couples seeking joint therapy. I am also undergoing supervision for Trauma Focused CBT.

My practice covers issues such as trauma, abuse, addictions, relational issues, socializing issues, lack of focus, depression, anxiety and more.
I believe clients DESERVE to be treated fairly and honestly. I prefer to work with my clients to help them achieve the life of their choosing, not my choosing. We all have an idea of what we want in life and how we want our lives to be, "our ultimate goal". Many times in life we experience obstacles and challenges which can interfere with us reaching that goal and making the most out of life. We will work together to help you achieve "YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL"!!!

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
