I offer bereavement counseling, support groups and conflict resolution including divorce mediation and parenting coordination via secure video or telephone conferencing.
Have you been impacted by loss due to Covid 19? Is isolation and social distancing causing you loneliness, anxiety or conflict in your family? Grief and mourning are being experienced as never before. Our traditional ways of coping - through the participation in rituals and communal gatherings, the hugs of loved ones and being with family - have been upended. The reality of not being able to be with loved ones, especially those who are ill or dying is traumatic. We are also having to negotiate with our family in new ways. I can help you find a path through these challenges.

The New York Center for Divorce & Family Mediation is dedicated to helping families and individuals navigate their ways through divorce and family conflicts.
The men and women who work with me are struggling with the most important relationships in their lives. They are either hoping to rekindle their love in Couples Theapy or dissolve their partnership through a thoughtful, sensitive and cost effective method, Mediation. Because of my years of training in understanding couples and individuals, I firmly believe that every crisis is an opportunity for growth and growth brings new opportunities. Through working with me, people will learn that they have the power to make choices for themselves and change their lives.

“I’m so sad.” “I’m stuck.” “I’m lonely.” “I hate my life.” “I’m nervous about everything.” If these sentiments sound familiar, you have just taken the first step toward change. I have specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. I have unique experience in treating men and women with relationship issues as well as those contemplating, or in the process of, divorce. I have worked extensively with religiously observant individuals of the Catholic and Jewish faith, negotiating the tension between modern contemporary life and religious practice.

I will help you set a therapy goal -- to improve work, relationships, or make a big change in your life (career, divorce, relationship, or retirement) -- and achieve it.
You are invested in your relationships, work and creating the next big step in your life. Or maybe you are reeling from a setback at work or home. Maybe you have a sense that you're not where you want to be in life but don't know exactly why. Or, you may be feeling positive, but you're at a crossroads -- and not sure which direction to go. You have limited time, and want results from therapy.

What is child therapy? Do children sit and talk over their problems like adults do? How do I know if my child needs professional help? And, what kind of therapist is best suited for my child?
Most adults have a hard time understanding that children, especially very young children, can be in need of psychotherapy.
In my private practice, where I specialize in the treatment of children and adolescents, parents bring children of all ages to me with a variety of reasons for their anxiety or depression. School related issues are quite common. Children who struggle with learning and attention deficit issues are prone to lowered self-esteem, often accompanied by behavior issues at home or in school. These children may also have developed problems making friends. Other children I see are feeling the effects of a transition or loss within the family. This could pertain to an illness, death, separation or divorce of parents, even the result of a parent's depression.

Together we will navigate life challenges that are part of relationships, parent-child/teen conflicts, separation or divorce transition, daily stress, complex trauma, chronic illness, or loss.
Finding the right psychotherapist is challenging and can be a lengthy process. Once the search is completed, and the therapy is under way, it will become rewarding and healing. My approach to psychotherapy is mindful, accepting and supportive. Trained in individual, couple, and family therapy, complex trauma, as well as clinical medicine and public health epidemiology, I provide treatment from an individualized integrative perspective, based on what is most beneficial to each person. My cultural and crosscultural perspectives allow me to also factor in the cultural impact on human behavior.

Life is filled with change; some planned and exciting, others unexpected and scary. Sometimes even planned change can tax our coping ability. Life transitions such as leaving college, finding satisfying relationships, marriage, having children, divorce, becoming a step family, and retirement can present unforeseen challenges. It is at times like these that having the guidance of an experienced professional can make the difference between "sinking" under the stress and "swimming" with feelings of mastery. As a psychotherapist and coach I have specialized in helping individuals and couples navigate the choppy waters of life change.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.
What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.
When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.
How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
