Whether you have a child who is struggling, or you are an adult trying to cope with relationships, depression or just balancing life, I can offer help and guidance. I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 20 years. I am also a certified expressive art therapist, which helps me a great deal in working with children/adolescents in addition to talk and play therapy.

I work with a wide variety of issues, from separation, divorce, grief, ptsd, aging parents, and other life issues.
My style is highly interactive, focused on communication, and achieving client goals. It is important to me that my clients are comfortable with me and know that I am available to them. Making life changes is not always easy, but I believe in human resiliency and strength. As an example of this philosophy, I have changed my name back to my maiden name. My mother passed away from Alzheimer's disease, and for this reason, to honor her, I wanted to take my name back... human resiliency!!!

When an individual or couple feels that the marriage cannot be repaired, therapy can help adults and children cope with the family changes that accompany separation and divorce.
Are you struggling with important relationships in your life, whether with a spouse, a parent, a friend, a coworker? We operate in a world filled with interpersonal interactions. Our earliest relationships teach us how to relate to others. However, at times, how we learn to relate during our formative years does not promote success in current relationships. I view therapy as a wonderful opportunity to examine how we relate to others and consider how to make changes in order to be more effective and have more satisfying relationships.

None of us can leave this planet without experiencing loss. We all grieve in our own way on our own unique grief journey. I've made it my life's mission to help those who've experienced loss of a loved one, loss due to divorce, life altering illness or injury, and other types of loss. You’ve come to this place because you've experienced a life-altering loss. Something has happened that has changed the trajectory of your life. The road ahead may seem confusing — riddled with sadness, heartache, and maybe even fear. You might wonder what comes next, what comes AFTERWARDS.

Perhaps it is your relationship that has ended and you realize you need some support to get through this new chapter in your life, I draw from a divorce recovery approach created for situations like this.
Babita has a waitlist until May 2022. You feel stuck and frustrated that you can't control the chaos or balance it all. You just feel so exhausted from trying so hard to make all the pieces in your life "fit" and you are not sure how to feel happier. You may even have noticed some depression or increased anxiety. You know you need to do something, but just not sure where to begin. I get it! As a team, we will move you forward to a healthier, more balanced and empowered space. You do not need to manage this alone.

For many, that trust recedes after a loss, such as divorce, at a time when they most need it.
In my 25 years of practice, I have evolved a number of specializations:couples therapy; women's issues;dealing with anxiety and depression--including post-partum depression; and facing the challenges of pregnancy loss and infertility. I have had extensive post-graduate training in couples therapy and have developed a lively and effective way of helping couples in distress get "unstuck" and move into a more satisfying and respectful relationship with one another.

I received my Master of Social Work from CUNY at Lehman College and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Johns University. Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
