I provide individual and family therapy to individuals who are looking for help to cope with life's various twists and turns. I utilize an organic approach to gain an understanding of your specific life situations and stressors that are contributing to your current feelings. I use positive affirmations, strength identification and skill building to encourage you to reach your personal goals. We will work quickly to alleviate uncomfortable symptoms while we learn to identify triggers that may cause these feelings in order to focus on making long term changes that will help you to move forward through life.

Psychotherapy, as I define it to my patients and students, is the collaborative inquiry between patient and therapist into the patient's patterns of interaction and patterns of expection. This kind of study leads to greater personal and interpersonal freedom, which allows for the reduction or the elimination of symptoms. Psychotherapy can be of brief duration or an extended enterprise focusing on long term difficulties. The decision on which form of psychotherapy to undertake is usually based on an evaluation of 1 to 3 sessions, where a treatment plan is developed. I am interactive in my approach.

I help people address feelings like depression, anxiety, anger and insecurity along with behaviors that may include addiction, poor school/work performance, ineffective communication or infidelity. Working with couples is a major focus in my practice and a topic I teach to both graduate and post-graduate students.

My approach is eclectic - using positive psychology, creativity and wellness to help clients navigate life transitions and challenges. I believe the therapeutic relationship is key to helping clients become their best selves and I bring a wide breadth of clinical and life experience to this partnership.

As a former cult member, I help people and their families who have been "unduly influenced." I am committed to helping people reclaim their personal power. I wrote Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults and Beliefs (2013), a 30th-anniversary edition of Combating Cult Mind Control (2018) and The Cult of Trump (2019). I help people from all over the world who have found that mental health professionals unless they are specialized in treating cult members, are at best a waste of time and resources, and worse, do further harm. A large part of my practice is short term work with former members.

Love takes many forms, and a mother experiences most of them. This practice is founded on the principle that a mother's work is worthy of respect. As a psychologist and psychoanalyst, I aim to help patients understand the trouble in their lives and make significant changes. I believe it is important to take the time to get to know patients' stories. My approach is both collaborative and challenging. Sometimes this involves helping people look at parts of themselves that are painful, or hard to see clearly. Many patients benefit from long-term, intensive therapy, while others find that shorter-term therapy helps them solve immediate problems.

With 25 years of experience, I do individual and group psychotherapy the young adult population and see middle-aged adults in individual and couples therapy. Ages 13 and up come here with issues around loss; relational difficulties; regulating moods; self-injury; sadness and depression; bipolar disorder; the coming out process; and understanding a history of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse. Adults often come in with marital issues such as infidelity and help and support going through the divorce process and for advice around dealing with their teenagers.

Note: At this time, I am not accepting new patients. I help people who are having a hard time, often because of anxiety, relationships, work, and life transitions. People who call me have reached a point where they feel ready for or curious about how therapy could help. I listen closely to your story to learn about your current difficulties as well as your strengths and capacities. We'll discuss possible approaches to help you feel better. Then, together we will make a plan. I have extensive experience offering problem-solving skills, CBT, IPT, and other relationship-focused psychodynamic therapy.
